The woman flailed defensively, clawing at Raelynn Ortiz.
Raelynn's fair skin was delicate, and angry red scratch marks instantly bloomed across her arm.
But she didn't let go of the man's wrist.
Her expression remained icy as she checked his pulse. A moment later, she leveled a glare at the woman's evasive eyes. "Acute ischemic stroke. He's still in the critical resuscitation window. Are you completely out of your mind, dragging a dying man around like this?"
This had absolutely nothing to do with their company's medication!
The woman froze, thoroughly intimidated by Raelynn's chilling, authoritative aura.
Raelynn turned to Preston Moreno. "Have someone bring down my acupuncture kit. I'll perform emergency intervention. Call 911."
Raelynn moved with crisp efficiency, wasting not a single second as she applied pressure to key points to stabilize him.
Soon enough, the man's body twitched.
Her needlework was swift and steady. The woman was too stunned to continue her tantrum, and by the time the ambulance arrived, the entire farce had ground to a halt.
The crowd dispersed.
Preston handed Raelynn an antibacterial wipe. "Here, sanitize your hands."
"Thank God your medical skills are top-notch. If the court of public opinion had caught fire today, it would have been a disaster for us."
Raelynn had studied medicine under Professor Alistair Finch for over a decade. She was a prodigy; even doctors with decades of high-profile credentials couldn't necessarily hold a candle to her when it came to saving lives.
Raelynn, however, frowned. "That wasn't normal."
Showing up at their front doors to cause a scene—they were deliberately trying to drag NexusMind Technologies through the mud.
If she hadn't possessed the medical expertise to intervene, they would have been hard-pressed to escape unscathed today.
While these kinds of extortion attempts weren't exactly unheard of for hospitals or pharmaceutical companies, the negative fallout could be catastrophic.
Everyone knew the domino effect such a scandal could trigger.
Preston looked thoughtful. "What are you getting at?"
Raelynn shook her head. "It's too early to say. As long as we managed to handle the immediate crisis, we're okay for now."
Preston asked, "What exactly are you implying, Ms. Vance?"
Seraphina tilted her chin up. She feigned a helpless look, though her eyes brimmed with arrogance. "My team cares deeply about the success of our project. They're worried that collaborating with the NexusMind database might bring us bad press. After all, if someone actually died, it could become a stain on our product's reputation..."
"Spit it out."
Raelynn couldn't be bothered to listen to her performative nonsense.
Seraphina's expression frosted over. "Mr. Moreno, you're the boss of NexusMind. You really should keep your subordinates on a tighter leash, lest they forget their place."
Who did Raelynn think she was, interrupting executive business?
She dropped the act. "I want to renegotiate the licensing fee. Drop it to under eight million dollars. I suggest you seriously consider it."
Raelynn almost laughed out loud.
The original fee was over thirty million, and she had the audacity to demand a massive discount.
This wasn't a negotiation; it was flat-out extortion. She wanted it for practically nothing.
