Preston completely understood Seraphina's angle now.
Rushing over here so quickly—her ulterior motives were glaringly obvious.
Raelynn let out a soft scoff. "NexusMind is NexusMind, and the database is the database. What makes you think Faye is running a charity for you?"
Seraphina found this highly amusing. "Does this have anything to do with you, Raelynn?"
It wasn't Raelynn's place to speak.
Standing up, she shot Preston a look of mock pity. "Mr. Moreno, you understand how it is. I lead a massive team. I can't just operate on personal favors, or my people won't respect me. I'll be straight with you: my team genuinely wants to renegotiate the licensing fee. If we can't come to an agreement, we have to protect our own interests. Which means we'll be forced to... terminate the contract."
Raelynn narrowed her eyes.
That was actually a bit surprising.
She knew exactly how desperately Seraphina needed her database.
And she was threatening to cancel the contract over a fabricated scandal?
Preston waited for her to finish.
Seraphina smoothed her dress. "We signed an agreement stating that in the event of a breach, the licensing fee is non-refundable. Fortunately, I've only paid for the first year. Since NexusMind will be busy handling its own PR nightmare, consider that money a little token of my goodwill. I'm sure we'll work together again in the future."
She made it sound so incredibly generous.
Raelynn could see right through it; Seraphina had come here today fully intending to terminate the contract.
The aggressive demand for a discount had just been a smokescreen.
Preston glanced at Raelynn. Seeing her completely unfazed, he finally spoke. "Then I suppose it wasn't meant to be. Don't worry, Ms. Vance. NexusMind doesn't force anyone into business."
Seraphina smiled at that. "I'm glad you understand."
"Chuck, please see our guest out," Preston said, shutting down any further small talk.
Seraphina was in high spirits. On her way out, she glanced at Raelynn as if suddenly remembering something. "Sunday is the anniversary of Grandpa's passing. Are you coming? Sebastian and I will be arriving a bit late."
Raelynn hadn't anticipated that curveball.
As far as she was concerned, Silas Vance had nothing to do with her anymore, let alone some memorial for a grandfather. Any familial bond had been severed long ago. Besides, she now knew a hidden truth—she wasn't biologically related to either family.
Thanks to Raelynn's timely intervention, the critical window for resuscitation had been successfully extended.
The man was stable now, but Preston couldn't get any useful answers out of them.
Raelynn didn't care much. "Whether it was orchestrated or just a coincidence, Seraphina used it as an excuse to terminate the contract. We didn't lose anything. In fact, we pocketed a year's worth of licensing fees for free, and she didn't even get to use my database. I'd call that a win."
She knew perfectly well it wasn't a coincidence.
But it didn't matter.
She had too many important things on her plate to stress over this.
However, Preston soon brought her some breaking news.
"Seraphina's team brought in some new blood. They're supposedly top-tier experts. Since they dropped our database, they hired people to write a new one from scratch. It's a huge operation. Word is, they've already secured a patent and everything's running smoothly. They're already in the testing phase."
"That fast?" Raelynn was genuinely surprised.
What kind of experts worked with that kind of efficiency?

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
