Sebastian glanced over at her but chose not to interrupt her focus.
They arrived back at their marital home.
Mary was already there waiting.
Sebastian had clearly orchestrated this in advance, having someone prep the house before they even arrived.
She was holding a thick stack of legal documents.
Raelynn blinked in surprise. He had everything drafted already?
"Can you give me a minute?" Sebastian asked, shrugging off his suit jacket. "I need to change my bandages."
Raelynn instinctively looked at his back. The injury from the Citadel Entertainment Complex still hadn't healed?
It had been quite a while since the accident.
Mary immediately chimed in, "Mrs. Croix, why don't you help Mr. Croix with his bandages? You have experience as an ER doctor. You have the perfect touch."
Raelynn smoothly averted her eyes. "There are plenty of people lining up for the job. He can call Seraphina. I'm sure his next wife would be thrilled to do it."
After all, Seraphina had waited on him hand and foot during his initial recovery.
It wasn't her problem anymore. If they were getting a divorce, they needed to act like it.
Mary choked on her words, completely silenced.
She shot an incredibly awkward glance at Sebastian's face.
Sebastian's eyes were unreadable. A faint, razor-sharp smirk played on his lips, carrying a deeply biting chill.
But he didn't argue with Raelynn. Instead, he looked at Mary and ordered, "Bring me the medical kit."
Mary hurried off to fetch it.
Raelynn didn't think for a second that Sebastian was being accommodating. He just clearly liked hearing her refer to Seraphina as his 'next wife.' It was exactly what he wanted.
Sebastian didn't bother looking for privacy. Standing right in front of the mirror, he swiftly unbuttoned his shirt and shrugged it off.
Raelynn was caught completely off guard.
Her eyes immediately landed on the large medical dressing taped across his back.
He had broad shoulders and a powerfully built back. As he moved his arms, the sleek, sculpted muscles rippled, revealing dark red blood seeping through the stark white gauze over his shoulder blade.
She frowned.
The wound was clearly nowhere near healed.
But it had been weeks.
How was that possible?
