The atmosphere instantly turned bizarre.
Raelynn acted as if she were completely invisible.
Sebastian seemed completely detached from the situation.
Adrian broke the silence. "You came here today because you're worried I'll hold a bias against you and reject your PhD application, right?"
Seraphina felt a knot in her stomach but replied earnestly, "Many things have been misunderstood. I just hope you won't misjudge me."
She dared to say this because she knew Faye wasn't pressing charges. She gambled on the chance that Adrian didn't know the exact details. As long as Faye had backed off, she assumed Adrian would let it go too.
As for Raelynn...
She had accepted Sebastian's bribe, so she definitely wouldn't run her mouth to ruin her.
Adrian nodded as if he understood perfectly. "Does that mean your affair with Mr. Croix is also a misunderstanding?"
Instead of pursuing the patent issue, he pivoted straight to her personal life.
Seraphina's lips tightened, her pupils trembling.
Even Sebastian finally lifted his gaze.
Raelynn remained silent.
She knew it. Her senior was absolutely ruthless.
Feigning innocence, Adrian looked at Sebastian. "Is that true, Mr. Croix? You have no inappropriate relationship with Ms. Vance? She's just one of your thousands of employees?"
The color drained from Seraphina's lips.
She realized Adrian had completely cornered them.
Raelynn also understood his motive.
He wanted to force a definitive answer out of Sebastian.
Biting her lip, Seraphina looked pitifully at the man sitting with his legs crossed. She desperately wanted him to declare her importance in front of everyone—especially in front of Raelynn—and slap her rival across the face.
But...
"Yes, she's an employee."
Sebastian's voice was cold and steady. His unhurried tone made it impossible to decipher what he was really thinking.
