Was it a territorial display, or just a blatant provocation?
Raelynn could not help but look at Sebastian, who stood just two steps behind Seraphina. He watched the entire exchange with the detached air of a bystander. He saw exactly what Seraphina did but made zero effort to stop her.
It was a silent permission.
It showed exactly where he stood.
Though Raelynn usually preferred not to cause a scene, the sheer absurdity of the situation forced a cold laugh from her lips.
Perhaps her gaze was too sharp, because after taking his seat, Sebastian cast a faint glance her way.
It was as if he had only just noticed she was standing there.
Raelynn refused to swallow this kind of humiliation.
She had no desire to play the loving wife with Sebastian, but she was absolutely not going to let Seraphina toss her name card aside like garbage in public.
She marched straight toward the table.
Before she could even open her mouth.
A wave of excited voices erupted from behind her as a crowd of students surged forward. "Ms. Vance? It really is you! I watched your segment on TV, my whole family loves you!"
Several students had recognized Seraphina from her frequent appearances on medical talk shows and viral educational videos. Acting like starstruck fans, they swarmed the area.
In the ensuing chaos.
Raelynn was caught in the middle, naturally blocking their path.
Someone accidentally shoved her out of the way.
Seeing Raelynn clumsily pushed out of the inner circle—as if physically barred from the world that belonged solely to her and Sebastian—Seraphina's eyes sparkled with undisguised amusement. She smiled warmly at the students. "Careful now, everyone."
She should have stayed quiet.
The moment she spoke, her fans grew even more frantic, all vying to be the first to snap a selfie with her.
In the shuffle, Raelynn, who had barely regained her balance, was clipped hard by a heavy backpack.
To match the formal occasion, she had worn high heels she almost never used. Stumbling backward, she instantly lost her footing.
Especially since Seraphina was standing right in front of them, all the color draining from her face. Her warm, welcoming smile had completely vanished. Her lips pressed into a tight, pale line as her initial shock morphed into a glare of icy fury directed at Raelynn.
Raelynn had practically thrown herself into Sebastian's arms in front of an audience!
There were already five or six hundred people seated in the hall, not to mention the large crowds still lingering by the entrance.
Stunned by the display, attendees began whispering and pointing.
Snippets of the gossip drifted into Seraphina's ears.
"So intimate." "Mr. Croix is such a gentleman." "They look amazing together." "I think they're married..."
Every passing comment made Seraphina's expression stiffen further.
Sebastian's face remained impassive. Leaning back in his chair with a lazy elegance, he looked at Raelynn perched on his lap, his gaze slowly trailing downward until it landed on her nude-colored heels.
"Your shoes don't fit," he noted.
He did not push her away. He simply made an observation.
