Seraphina's fingers curled into tight fists as she stared at Raelynn with absolute venom.
Mrs. Croix?
Raelynn was truly a manipulative snake!
She always acted so aloof and above it all.
But she had clearly run straight to the administration and flaunted her marital status, using the title of 'Mrs. Croix' to stroke her own ego and steal the spotlight!
Leo frowned in disgust.
He never expected things to play out like this.
Julian was the first to regain his composure. Taking his own seat, he addressed the group. "Let's just follow the university's arrangements."
It was obvious the school had set the layout. If they kept fighting it, the only person who would end up humiliated was Seraphina.
Seraphina's position was hardly a respectable one to begin with.
Preston grabbed Raelynn's arm and guided her to the chair. "Sit down. You're seated next to my father, not anyone else."
He wanted to make it abundantly clear to the onlookers that Raelynn wasn't riding Sebastian's coattails. The key takeaway from the staff member's apology was that the school specifically placed her beside Adrian because they would soon be colleagues!
Once seated, Raelynn completely ignored the man beside her.
Sebastian leisurely withdrew his gaze, staring straight ahead alongside her. The married couple displayed zero signs of intimacy.
Seraphina pressed her lips into a thin line, shot Raelynn one last furious glare, and retreated to the back row.
Leo muttered, "You heard him. She only got this VIP treatment by weaponizing her status as Mrs. Croix. If she didn't play dirty, she would never get her hands on things she doesn't deserve."
"Yeah," Seraphina replied, her expression slowly returning to a placid mask. "It's just a seat. I really don't care."
Only a useless woman like Raelynn had to rely on the 'Mrs. Croix' label to act as a parasite, clinging to her husband's prestige just to squeeze out a drop of respect.
That glory didn't belong to Raelynn. It belonged solely to the title she wore.
Taking a seat instantly relieved the agonizing pressure on Raelynn's heels.
High heels were beautiful torture devices. Every time she wore them, she ended up with blisters, but they were a necessary evil for formal events.
She was surprised. No matter how talented someone was, how young could a full professor actually be?
She guessed they were likely around forty. In the realm of Kingsford professors, that was practically an infant.
But if they were being fast-tracked, they had to be a prodigy with monumental achievements.
That placed them in the same elite tier as Adrian Moreno. She didn't need to feel threatened by it.
Julian glanced over his shoulder. "A fast-tracked professor? They must be a titan in the medical field. Kingsford rarely hands out appointments like that."
"Why haven't any details leaked about who it is?" Leo wondered aloud.
Normally, a prestigious appointment like this would have generated weeks of hype.
"If this new professor is making major waves, Seraphina, you might want to keep them in mind. If things fall through with Director Moreno, you could pivot and build a connection with them instead. It would still be a massive win."
"Nothing is going to fall through," Seraphina replied confidently.
Still, she knew this mystery professor was a heavy hitter. If, by some horrible stroke of luck, she failed to secure a spot with Adrian, having this new professor as a backup plan would be a phenomenal safety net.
