Raelynn felt a rush of adrenaline roar in her ears.
She gripped her phone, fighting to suppress her wild surge of hope. "Really?"
God only knew how long she had waited for this moment!
She figured Sebastian's ruthless showdown with the old woman yesterday must have done the trick.
He had forced Matilda to see the reality of his resolve.
Proving that strong-arming them into parenthood was a losing battle.
For a brief second, Raelynn actually felt a twisted sense of gratitude for Sebastian's reckless devotion to Seraphina. At least it was finally buying her a way out.
Matilda's tone was as composed as ever. "However, there is a condition."
"Name it."
"You told me before that you fell in love with someone else. I've thought it over. If you truly have another man in your heart, I won't stand in the way of your happiness. So, here is the deal: bring the boy to me. Let me evaluate him. If he's a decent match, the certificate is yours."
The smile instantly faded from Raelynn's lips.
She hadn't expected a curveball like this.
That entire confession had been a desperate lie.
Where on earth was she supposed to find a fake boyfriend on such short notice?

Her momentary silence immediately drew Matilda's ire. "I knew it. You were lying to me all along. Why play these games, child?"
Raelynn was caught totally off guard.
She had hesitated for barely two seconds.
Matilda wasn't the matriarch of the Croix family for nothing; her instincts were terrifyingly sharp.
Raelynn scrambled for an excuse to salvage her divorce certificate.
But Matilda spoke first. "Since this imaginary man doesn't exist, I'll set you up with someone. The grandson of a dear friend of mine is only a few years older than you. He is polite, gentle, and an exceptionally brilliant young man. He's right at the age for marriage. Go meet him on a blind date. If you two hit it off, we'll finalize the arrangement."
Raelynn frowned.
She finally understood the Matriarch's twisted logic.
Her blind date happened to be the host of the event.
Shortly after, a man called her phone. "Ms. Ortiz?"
His voice was exceptionally smooth and pleasant. "My name is Theon Tanner. I believe we're supposed to meet tonight. Did you receive the invitation? If you call me when you arrive, I'll come out to greet you personally."
Raelynn could instantly sense his impeccable manners and tact.
She felt a twinge of guilt knowing she was only using this date as a transaction, but she figured she'd just come clean to him when they met.
"I received it. Thank you."
"Excellent. I look forward to meeting you."
"Likewise."
Raelynn wasn't someone who opened up easily; there were very few people in the world she felt safe showing her true self to.
So, she maintained a polite, professional distance.
Theon didn't seem to mind her guarded demeanor.
He simply chuckled and gracefully ended the call.
Raelynn breathed a sigh of relief.

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
