She opened her mouth, the word 'thanks' right on the tip of her tongue.
Sebastian walked down to pour a glass of water and gave a curt nod. "It seems you have your own unique set of priorities. You're willing to go on a blind date just to secure a divorce certificate, and the second you get it, you ignore your own physical recovery."
His voice was smooth, his words detached.
Just stating the facts.
He leveled a glance at her, his tone questioning. "Is this certificate really more important than your own dignity?"
The 'thank you' died instantly in Raelynn's throat.
Even if Sebastian was just stating the facts, it sounded entirely different to her.
What had happened to her wasn't consensual. It was a deeply traumatic violation.
But Sebastian's "facts" felt like a knife twisting in her gut.
Even a stranger would have offered some comfort, but Sebastian lacked any shred of warmth. His absolute objectivity was just another form of callousness.
Raelynn swallowed her gratitude and threw her armor right back on. "Yes, it is. It's the only thing that proves we are no longer husband and wife, and that gives me incredible peace of mind."
She handed the barb right back.
It wasn't that she lacked dignity; she just wanted to be done with him.
Sebastian fell silent for a beat.
Holding his water glass, he stared at her intently.
She was as stubborn as ever, her face utterly blank. If it weren't for the jarring bruises on her neck, she would have looked even more intimidating.
Instead, she was projecting pure aggression to mask her own fragility.
Sebastian didn't say anything else.
He wasn't going to argue.
Raelynn was equally blunt about why she was there. "I'm moving out. Today."
Sebastian finally looked back at her.
But before he could respond, his phone rang.
The video call chime pierced the quiet room.
He glanced at the screen. Raelynn caught a glimpse too—Seraphina Vance's profile picture.
Sebastian lowered his eyes and walked toward the door, phone in hand. "Fine. You don't need to inform me."
He didn't offer an opinion.
