Sierra was rushed to the hospital in the ambulance.
A few of the university staff rode along with her.
After carrying the girl down several flights of stairs, Raelynn's adrenaline crashed. She collapsed onto the concrete steps outside the building, struggling to catch her breath just as Dr. Adrian Moreno hurried out, having heard the news.
Seeing Raelynn, he stepped forward and gently patted her head. "How is she?"
Raelynn exhaled heavily. "It was an allergic asthma attack that triggered a chain reaction with her heart. The paramedics got here fast, so she should pull through without any major damage."
Dr. Moreno nodded grimly. "That kid has dealt with severe asthma her whole life. She can't be around heavy pollen or strong synthetic fragrances. Add a congenital heart defect to the mix, and she's always been fragile. I suppose that's exactly why she went into medicine."
Raelynn wasn't surprised that Dr. Moreno knew her medical history so intimately.
After all, high-society circles were small. As a daughter of the Yves Family and the child of Dr. Evelyn Hayes, her health struggles were likely an open secret among the elite.
"You seem to know Sierra well."
Dr. Moreno sighed. "I've heard the talk over the years. Her condition is pretty widely known among the right families."
Raelynn immediately turned her head.
She stared back up at the lab windows.
Seraphina had brought in that massive bouquet. Natural roses rarely had such an overpowering scent, but those had been drenched in heavy oils. If Seraphina knew about Sierra's deadly allergy... she never would have brought them inside.
Raelynn frowned in deep thought.
She ultimately decided it must have been a reckless accident.
After all, the flowers were supposedly a grand romantic gesture from Sebastian. There was no logical reason for Seraphina to intentionally trigger Sierra's life-threatening condition just to show off.
Before Dr. Moreno walked away, he paused. "Did you submit your paper?"
Raelynn scrambled to her feet, instantly shaking off the exhaustion from her adrenaline rush. "I did, I did!"
She spun around and sprinted back up the stairs.
When she burst back into the lab, Seraphina was nowhere to be found, and the suffocating bouquet was gone.
Raelynn didn't care about where the other woman went.
She marched straight to her laptop, noticing the screen was still on the submission portal.
She glanced at it and realized the document had already gone through.
She figured she must have accidentally clicked the mouse in her frantic rush to catch Sierra when she collapsed.
She reached out to open the sent file to double-check everything.
