Dr. Hayes suddenly shot Finch a look of pure, unadulterated envy.
This old man had ridiculous luck, snatching up such a rare gem to be his successor!
Raelynn knew it was time to strike back.
She turned around and locked eyes with Seraphina's pale, panicked face.
"Professor Finch is right. Tampering with academic submissions is a serious offense," she said, her gaze drilling into Seraphina. "I will pursue this to the very end and find out exactly who tried to destroy me."
With her striking features and cold, commanding aura, Raelynn looked downright lethal.
Seraphina's pupils dilated.
A suffocating wave of dread completely swallowed her.
She had always assumed Raelynn was a nobody—someone lingering on the fringes of society who could be swatted down with a simple trick.
But now...
She realized she had never even been in Raelynn's league.
This horrifying realization made her look absolutely sick.
But what was even more suffocating was the fact that Raelynn was Faye. If she launched an investigation using Faye's influence, the dynamic changed entirely. If she actually found proof...
Seraphina bit her lip, forcing a stiff, awkward smile. "I suppose I misunderstood. I'm just very familiar with Faye's work, and I didn't want the integrity of the academic community compromised."
Right now, all she could do was desperately try to downplay the situation.
Raelynn let out a soft, mocking laugh. "Then all the more reason to investigate thoroughly. It's only right, out of respect for the medical field."
Seraphina's eyes flickered with rising anger.
Was Raelynn seriously trying to back her into a corner?!
She was being far too aggressive!
Seraphina opened her mouth to argue, but someone rushed into the center of the hall, whispering urgently to Dr. Hayes, Professor Finch, and the other university officials.
Dr. Hayes's expression hardened instantly. She snapped her head toward Seraphina. "So, according to you, Raelynn's situation was just a misunderstanding. Then what about yours?"
"What?" Seraphina asked, completely lost.
Dr. Hayes slammed her hand against the table, her face like thunder. "This high-scoring paper of yours—the topic, the title, the research direction, the core arguments, and even the exact phrasing... why are they practically identical to a paper Raelynn published years ago? And why is there absolutely no citation?"
Seraphina's head snapped up. "That's impossible!"
The room erupted in yet another plot twist.
Even Raelynn hadn't seen this coming.
