Raelynn had absolutely no intention of having that conversation with Sebastian.
She calmly averted her gaze, acting as though his intense stare meant nothing.
Dr. Hayes strode over, shooting Seraphina a cold, authoritative glare. "Whether it's the tampering of Raelynn's work or the plagiarism in your own paper, both matters will be treated with the utmost severity. Seraphina, you will need to cooperate with an official inquiry shortly."
Seraphina's limbs felt like ice.
A creeping, unpredictable dread clawed at her chest.
Nothing had gone according to plan. Instead, she had walked herself right to the edge of a sheer cliff, with no safe path forward and no way back.
She clenched her fists tight.
Refusing to let the sheer panic show on her face, she swallowed her anxiety and gave a stiff nod.
Before leaving, Dr. Hayes turned back to Raelynn, her eyes softening with unmistakable admiration. She looked Raelynn up and down, then patted her shoulder warmly. "Alistair really lucked out with you. Raelynn, if you're ever free, I'd love to chat with you about your research on neurological disorders."
Seraphina stared at Dr. Hayes in absolute disbelief.
Saying she wanted to 'chat' was just a polite cover—it was an open invitation from a medical titan offering to take Raelynn under her wing.
Raelynn nodded immediately, genuinely flattered. "I would be honored."
Dr. Hayes had to leave. Seraphina's situation required immediate administrative action. The higher-ups were already getting involved, preparing to handle the scandal with full severity.
Once Dr. Hayes walked away, Raelynn didn't want to linger either. Ignoring Sebastian completely, she turned and walked off without looking back.
She refused to have a personal confrontation with him here.
She certainly wasn't going to discuss the fact that she had given birth to a child during their marriage.
Sebastian's dark eyes tracked her retreating figure. He could clearly see her avoiding him. His face remained completely stoic, yet a dangerous undercurrent surged beneath the surface.
Seraphina took a deep breath. "I'm so sorry, Sebastian. With this... complication, it looks like we won't be able to make it to the television program today."
