Back then, she had desperately tried to comfort herself, convincing her broken heart that Sebastian just didn't want the harsh contraceptive pills to ruin her health, which was why he chose to stop.
But eventually, she couldn't lie to herself anymore.
He just refused to allow even a fraction of a risk, and more importantly, he probably didn't trust that she would actually take the pill.
She finally understood exactly where she stood.
Raelynn stared directly into Sebastian's eyes. "Did you completely forget how our sex life worked? What gives you the arrogance to think Lily has anything to do with you?"
"I said I felt guilty because I shouldn't have slept with someone else while we were married. That's why I felt I owed you an explanation. I told myself I had to wait until you asked for a divorce before I could walk away with a clean conscience. I just didn't expect us to drag it out for so many years. Are those reasons sufficient enough for you?"
She had no problem twisting the knife.
She was entirely confident because she knew Sebastian had zero memory of the *one* time he didn't use protection—the night he was black-out drunk before leaving the country. That blind spot was her only shield, her only lifeline.
Her words were brutal.
Her expression was openly mocking.
She was mocking him for his insane delusion.
Mocking him for having the audacity to think the child was his.
Sebastian said nothing.
She couldn't even read the dark, swirling emotions locked behind his eyes.
They stood in a violent standoff.
Raelynn hadn't left a single inch of breathing room.
She had absolutely nothing left to do with this man, so she made sure her words were vicious enough to completely annihilate any fantasy he had about Lily being his.
He didn't even want her, so why would she ever use a child to tie them together again?
Even without screaming, it felt as though they were driving daggers into each other's chests.
Sebastian's features hardened into a mask of pure ice. He grabbed her arm again, leaning in so they were eye to eye. "We are divorced, Raelynn. I am not dead."
"If you are marrying Ian Hudson, and the world believes Lily is his daughter, where does that leave me? It means you had his kid while you were married to me. What exactly does that make me?"
Raelynn's voice died in her throat.
Her eyes trembled with panic.
She desperately tried to shove him off.
Suddenly.
The screech of tires echoed across the pavement.
The sharp sound of dress shoes marching aggressively toward them followed.
A second later, a dangerously authoritative voice cut through the tension: "Mr. Croix, I strongly suggest you step away from my fiancée."

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
