Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 541

Hearing that voice cut through the tension.

Raelynn Ortiz snapped back to reality, turning sharply to see Ian Hudson striding toward them. His usually stoic face was clouded with a rare, icy intensity.

Sebastian Croix's expression remained indifferent as he slightly turned his head.

He locked eyes with Ian, who had just stepped up to them.

Standing up straight, his dark eyes completely unreadable, he greeted him. "Mr. Hudson."

Ian quickly checked on Raelynn to ensure she was alright before his gaze dropped to Sebastian's hand, which was still firmly gripping Raelynn's arm. "Lynnie doesn't like that. I'd appreciate it if you prioritized her comfort, Mr. Croix."

He didn't yell, but his tone was far from polite.

An unspoken, rigid standoff hung in the air.

Sebastian simply stared back at him with cold detachment.

For no apparent reason, his lips twitched slightly.

Seizing the moment, Raelynn ruthlessly wrenched her arm out of Sebastian's grasp. She took a deep breath, pressing her lips together. "You came looking for me?"

"Yeah, I just got off the plane." Ian finally turned to her.

"I have to deal with something right now. If it's convenient, could you wait for me?" Raelynn knew that if Ian had come straight to Kingsford University after landing, he was likely looking for her, possibly regarding the single-status certificate they needed.

Their conversation flowed naturally, entirely at ease.

Sebastian simply leaned back against the car door, an air of pure nonchalance surrounding him.

Lowering his eyes, he pulled out a lighter, casually flicking it open and shut, sending tiny blue flames sparking into the air.

"It's no trouble," Ian replied.

Then, he turned back to the silent Sebastian. "If you have a moment, Mr. Croix, we should talk. The answers you've been looking for—I might be able to give them to you."

In that single sentence.

Raelynn suddenly detected a very faint... sense of provocation.

It felt almost like a hallucination.

Ian knew exactly how to deflect the heavy blows and when to seamlessly twist the knife.

"That's why I'm the one raising the child," Ian said, meeting Sebastian's intense stare. "You seem to forget who I am. I'm Ian Hudson. If she wasn't my own flesh and blood, why on earth would I willingly raise another man's child?"

That declaration practically nailed the coffin shut on the narrative.

It also maxed out the hostility between the two men in an instant.

But Raelynn understood.

Ian was pushing the narrative to its absolute extreme just to make Sebastian believe that Lily had nothing to do with him.

Sebastian didn't flinch.

But his eyes grew infinitely darker and more predatory.

With a flick of his thumb, he snapped the lighter's metal lid shut, a mocking sneer tugging at his lips. "You certainly have a talent for taking a shady, back-alley situation and dressing it up to look glamorous, Mr. Hudson. But what exactly gave you the impression that I am a man you can just walk all over?"

Raelynn knew exactly what Sebastian meant.
