Seeing Blanche step out, Raelynn could easily piece together the situation. The Vance family was standing in the eye of a massive storm. Their business operations were frozen, and they had been blacklisted from almost every industry circle. Without external help, they were completely dead in the water.
Yet here was Sebastian, completely disregarding the toxic PR surrounding the Vance family, treating Seraphina with the same unwavering devotion as always.
A faint, mocking smile touched Raelynn's lips.
Just then, Seraphina caught her eye.
The other woman's gaze instantly sharpened, filled with a cold, venomous resentment, subtly layered with a twisted sense of triumph.
Raelynn didn't care enough to dissect her feelings. Whether it was hatred or resentment, Seraphina had brought it all upon herself. Raelynn had no obligation to entertain her tantrums.
As Sebastian's party made their entrance, several attendees came over to greet them, strictly out of respect for the Croix name.
Throughout it all, Sebastian didn't spare Raelynn a single glance. He acted as though she were completely invisible.
Noticing this, Blanche exchanged a smug, sneering look with Seraphina.
Leo Flynn stepped out of the car that had pulled up behind them. Spotting Raelynn, he immediately changed direction and approached her. "You're here too?"
It was rare for him to initiate a conversation without a snide remark.
Raelynn gave him a flat look, showed zero intention of responding, and simply turned to walk away.
Leo's lips parted slightly, but he ultimately said nothing. Getting angry wasn't worth it, so he just awkwardly rubbed his nose.
Right on time, Ian came down the stairs to meet Raelynn. He walked straight to her side and offered his arm. "Let's head inside."
Raelynn glanced at his gentlemanly gesture, didn't hesitate, and slipped her hand into the crook of his arm.
Ian gave a polite nod to the surrounding guests, and the two of them walked right past Sebastian.
Raelynn didn't reply. She had already figured that out.
Ian didn't need to be at a charity gala like this. He was here solely to escort her—to make a high-profile statement of his own.
She couldn't be bothered to waste energy on whatever Sebastian was doing. Glancing around the room, she spotted Dr. Evelyn Hayes deep in conversation at the far end of the hall.
The eighty-year-old matriarch was sharp and vibrant. Despite her age, she remained on the front lines of the medical field, carrying the weight of the next generation on her shoulders. Because she was the one pulling the strings tonight, many attendees would gladly open their wallets just to do her a favor.
"Want to go say hello?" Ian asked, noticing the deep admiration in Raelynn's eyes.
Raelynn smiled softly. "No rush. I'll catch up with her privately when the event winds down."
Ian was sharp enough to understand her reasoning instantly. Given her current, highly scrutinized status, approaching Dr. Hayes right now would inevitably invite whispers of her being a social climber.
He turned, picked up a glass of wine from a passing tray, and handed it to her. "Leveraging connections is a talent in itself. When resources and networks are right in front of you, seizing them to achieve your goals isn't shameful. Only the weak disguise their incompetence as moral superiority."

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
