She pulled out her phone and showed it to Raelynn. "I don't know who leaked the news, but a lot of people in our circles are asking if I've found my granddaughter. In just a short while, I've had dozens of calls pretending to offer congratulations while actually digging for gossip about the Vance family."
Raelynn looked at the endless missed calls on the older woman's Contacts List.
They had suppressed the rumors just yesterday.
Yet today, so many people already knew.
And the rumors were highly specific, pointing directly at the Vance family and Seraphina.
She didn't believe for a second this wasn't orchestrated.
Something completely unverified was already being accepted as absolute truth by the public.
Right now, Seraphina's social stock was skyrocketing, and she was likely already soaking up the special treatment that came with being the supposed Yves heiress.
"I know it sounds foolish, but I honestly can't say I'm happy," Evelyn said, shaking her head. "Blood is supposed to be thicker than water, and that amulet truly is the one-of-a-kind piece I custom-ordered. But when I look at that girl, I feel absolutely nothing. In fact, looking at her doesn't bring me half the joy I feel when I look at you, young Raelynn."
She was even starting to doubt herself.
Had so many years passed that she simply overestimated how much she still cared and hoped for her granddaughter's return?
Raelynn could see exactly what Evelyn was thinking.
Even a great woman like Chairwoman Hayes could be troubled by matters of the heart.
She offered a comforting smile. "It's completely normal. Affection between people grows through time spent together. Just relax and wait for the DNA test results."
Evelyn couldn't help but look deeply at Raelynn.
This chaotic web of relationships would become nothing but cheap gossip for the masses.
Evelyn wasn't one to hesitate. She picked up her phone, found the Hudson Patriarch's number, and dialed it, not minding Raelynn's presence in the slightest. "Old Hudson, about the matter with the kids we discussed previously—let's not drag this out any longer. Let's set a time to handle it."
There seemed to be a moment of hesitation on the other end of the line.
But Evelyn's tone remained uncompromising. "I'm sure the Hudson family has heard the rumors regarding the Yves child. Whether it's true or not, in the eyes of the public, dragging the Croix family into this will only create a bigger mess. Next Monday, I'm hosting a dinner in Kingsford. Send someone from your family."
They needed a formal meeting to officially settle the engagement.
Raelynn admired Evelyn's sharp and decisive nature.
After ending the call.
Evelyn looked steadily at Raelynn. "My dear Raelynn, you don't need to worry. If you and Ian have genuine feelings for each other, I would never stand in the way of your happiness. But since this involves Ian and Mr. Croix, you are technically half-involved. You should attend the meeting to dissolve the engagement as well."

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
