Raelynn still wasn't entirely lucid yet.
So when Ian hugged her, she was momentarily confused, completely forgetting how to react.
Those few seconds of hesitation.
Looked almost like quiet acceptance.
Outside the door.
Sebastian stood silently, his eyes fixed through the small glass window, watching the scene unfold with crystal clarity.
A man and woman, having survived a nightmare, realizing the preciousness of life and holding each other tightly, celebrating the fact that they hadn't lost one another.
It was the most disgustingly sweet kind of romance in the world.
His face was completely impassive.
His dark eyes reflected a faint, chilling glint.
He didn't push the door open.
He simply lowered his gaze to his left shoulder, currently immobilized in a brace. It wasn't too severe—a fracture and a dislocation—but it would take some time to heal.
Sebastian pulled his gaze away.
And turned to leave.
Coincidentally.
He ran into Cordelia Hudson, who happened to be in Seaport City and had rushed over the moment she heard the news.
Cordelia gave him a look of surprise.
Sebastian paused for a second, gave a polite nod, and walked away without looking back.
Cordelia couldn't help but turn to watch him go.
She narrowed her eyes thoughtfully, then finally stepped up to the hospital room door.
That was when she spotted the tender moment inside.
She raised an eyebrow with a smirk.
And decided not to interrupt just yet.
Thankfully, Ian knew not to push his luck. He patted Raelynn's shoulder lightly and let go before she could say a word, sitting back down. "The most important thing is that you're not hurt. That's all that matters."
"I'm fine."
A memory suddenly flashed in Raelynn's mind.
A figure diving toward her in the dead of night, locking her in a tight embrace to absorb the brunt of the impact as they tumbled down the hill.
She instinctively scrutinized Ian.
"Are you hurt?" Raelynn looked at Ian with deep gratitude. "Did you have a doctor check you out?"
Meeting her concerned gaze, Ian furrowed his brows slightly, but chose not to elaborate.
"I'm fine."
Cordelia smiled and shook her head. "Don't worry about him. Right now, your main priority is taking care of yourself. When we get back to Kingsford, you must come over. I'll personally cook you a feast to build your strength back up. I asked the doctor—you're barely a hundred pounds at five-foot-seven! If you had fallen all by yourself, you would've broken bones everywhere."
"True," Raelynn chuckled.
If someone hadn't acted as her human shield, she definitely would have ended up with multiple fractures.
Thank God for a physically robust man like Ian.
Cordelia smiled warmly at the two of them, thoughtfully pushing the thermos closer to Raelynn. "Alright, I won't overstay my welcome. I'll leave you two alone. Call me if you need anything."
She knew exactly how this worked.
This was the absolute perfect moment to heat up their romance.
Why stick around and ruin Ian's progress?
Cordelia swept out of the room as quickly as she arrived.
"Want some?" Ian pointed to the soup.

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
