Quentin wanted to intervene, but the moment Dr. Hayes mentioned the beloved "Jo-Jo," his expression shifted. Whatever memory surfaced, it left his face awash in complex emotions, and he remained silent.
Sylvia looked as though all the strength had been drained from her body.
She completely forgot to defend herself.
This whole conflict was clearly between Raelynn and Seraphina, yet somehow, with dizzying speed, the crosshairs had locked onto her.
It was impossible to defend against.
She had absolutely zero time to react.
She couldn't fathom why things had escalated like this.
Watching everything unfold, Raelynn felt an indescribable knot of complicated emotions.
"Back then, the late Mrs. Yves suffered from an emotional illness and ultimately lost her life. Now, Sera almost went down the same tragic path. I raised Sera for years, and she is the absolute core of my heart. I won't stand by and let my child suffer such a massive injustice and trauma. We need a resolution," Blanche chimed in, seizing the opportunity to add weight to the scale.
Sylvia finally pressed her lips together and glanced at Blanche.
The two of them were old acquaintances, of course.
Back in the day, Blanche had always considered herself superior. Now, over twenty years later, she had bared her fangs to take a vicious bite out of her.
Her voice trembled with grief. "Blanche, why must you throw this dirty water on me? I have never done anything to offend you."

Just as she was about to retort, Dr. Hayes waved off the bickering. She looked at Quentin, her eyes swimming with disappointment and resolve. "I let you come back because I felt I was getting older and might not have many days left. I wanted to see you before I passed, and I was willing to give you time to sort things out. Since she's lived abroad for so long, she can pack up and return to where she belongs after the New Year. Don't come back."
Sylvia's complexion finally drained completely. "Dr. Hayes..."
This meant she was being banished from the country all over again.
Dr. Hayes's blood pressure was spiking, but her stance remained ironclad.
She was setting things right.
If Seraphina truly was her biological granddaughter, she had an absolute obligation to protect her.
To protect Lydia's daughter on her behalf.
With that, she suddenly fixed her gaze on Sebastian.
"You've gone through a lot of trouble tonight, Sebastian. However, I have one question for you."
Sebastian sat up slightly. "Please."
Dr. Hayes stared at him with eyes that seemed to pierce through every facade. Her tone was sharp as a blade. "Did you orchestrate all of this today to get justice for Seraphina, or to clear the storm for Raelynn?"
The question landed without warning.
It was so aggressive that evasion was impossible.
Seraphina had been relishing her victory over Sylvia, but the moment she heard that question, a subconscious jolt of anxiety seized her chest.
Raelynn was also stunned.
Sebastian's dark eyes remained entirely unchanged.
He slowly lifted his gaze.

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....

I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
