Raelynn's breath hitched in her throat.
She kept her eyes locked on Sebastian. He was observing her just as intensely, analyzing her every micro-expression.
But as always, he was entirely unreadable.
From start to finish, not a single trace of emotion leaked through to give her a clue. It made Raelynn deeply uncomfortable and put her entirely on edge.
Thinking about it critically, Sebastian's counter-question was dangerously loaded.
It could be interpreted in a dozen different ways.
And if she played her cards wrong, this conversation could spiral out of control.
Raelynn crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair. "I asked you a question. Why are you deflecting?"
Sebastian watched her defensive posture. She was guarded, highly alert, completely untrusting, and practically wound tight as a spring.
He stared at her for a long time. His Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed dryly. "The ultra-wealthy control the vast majority of the world's money, technology, and contingency resources. We have independent medical reserves for emergencies. I'm no exception. It just so happens I own a facility that uses state-of-the-art cryogenic technology to store plasma. It's managed by top-tier specialists, and the plasma itself is the highest grade, treated with specialized radiation protocols."
Raelynn furrowed her brow.
She could understand the paranoid lengths billionaires would go to in order to preserve their own lives.
But that only explained *why* he had access to plasma that outclassed the hospital's supply.
It didn't answer...
The real question she was asking.
Frustration flared inside her. Talking to a man this ruthlessly intelligent was exhausting. She had to constantly second-guess her every word, terrified of giving away too much, which left her walking away with zero actual answers.
"My question was, how did you know exactly which type of plasma Lily needed? You had your people flying it in before the doctors even asked. The doctors didn't tell you her blood type, and I certainly didn't," she said, taking a deep breath.
Sebastian remained reclined against the pillows. Still weak from waking up, his voice was significantly lower than usual.
"What makes you think I only had one blood type on that helicopter?" he countered.
Raelynn froze.
Sebastian gave her a cool, indifferent look, his tone perfectly steady. "My medical reserve includes your blood type and plasma. There are only so many blood types in existence. It was easier to just grab the highest-grade clotting factors for every type and fly them all over."
Raelynn couldn't find a single hole in his logic.
She hadn't gone up to the helipad to check how many different types of plasma they had brought.
