Raelynn never expected to learn Sebastian's stance through Sierra.
Even though she knew Sebastian had no interest in her future romantic life, having last night's events laid bare like this still made her uncomfortable.
"Yeah, for sure," Raelynn replied. She couldn't exactly fault Sierra; the younger woman's eyes shone with absolute sincerity, genuinely congratulating her on a beautiful future.
Sierra linked her arm through Raelynn's, sighing thoughtfully. "I know what kind of man Ian is. He doesn't play games, he respects boundaries, and he's exactly the type who gives his partner complete security."
Raelynn didn't deny it.
Ian was indeed a man of principle.
Having known him for years, she had never heard of him entertaining any other women. His life revolved almost entirely around work.
"You know him well?"
Raelynn asked.
Sierra nodded, then quickly shook her head. "Our families are so close, and we were almost related by marriage at one point. We always see each other around the holidays. You just pick up on these things, and the older generation never stops singing his praises."
That made sense.
During the years Raelynn was away, the two families had naturally maintained tight ties, bound together by mutual business interests.
But this whole bidding situation...
Raelynn drifted into deep thought.
"Professor Ortiz?" Sierra tilted her head, noticing her distraction. "Thinking about Ian?"
Raelynn opened her mouth to reply, but her phone started ringing.
It was Ian.
Ever since the Hudson family's bid became public knowledge, she could easily guess exactly what he was calling to say.
Sierra glanced at her screen.
Her gaze lingered on the caller ID for a long moment before she asked, "Why aren't you answering? I thought you two would have spent last night bonding. Shouldn't you be in the honeymoon phase right now?"
Sensing some unspoken tension between them.
The two of them turned around.
Cordelia Hudson had just stepped out of her car. She watched Raelynn and Sierra from a distance, her expression gentle.
Seeing Cordelia, Sierra immediately straightened up and offered a polite greeting. "Hello, Mrs. Hudson."
Cordelia acknowledged Sierra. She had a fairly deep impression of the girl; the Yves family wasn't large, and with more sons than daughters, Sierra was the only prominent female heir aside from their long-lost daughter.
Having seen her a few times over the years, Cordelia remembered her as frail and often sick, but certainly not naive. At the very least, she was sharp and well-mannered.
Cordelia offered a polite nod.
Raelynn hadn't expected Cordelia to be the first one to seek her out.
She recalled how intensely Garrett Gallagher had tried to push them together the night before. The Gallagher family placed immense importance on Ian's marriage, and Cordelia was likely the one pulling the strings.
"Did you need to speak with me?" Raelynn asked.
Cordelia then glanced at Sierra, who was still hovering nearby. "I was hoping to have a private word with Raelynn. Would you mind giving us a moment, Ms. Yves?"

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
