Sierra finally caught the hint that Cordelia wanted her gone.
Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "Of course, I'm so sorry. I'll leave you two to chat."
Sierra glanced back at the two of them as she walked away. It was clear that Raelynn held a respected position in Cordelia's eyes. After all, the older woman had sought her out personally and was treating her with an unusual warmth—a stark contrast to the ruthless businesswoman Sierra knew her to be.
Cordelia didn't beat around the bush. She stepped forward with a heavy sigh. "I assume you've heard about the Hudson family entering the bid."
She laid it out in the open.
Raelynn pressed her lips together, meeting Cordelia's gaze. "Yes, I know."
Cordelia looked troubled. "Ian made it very clear to me. To let the Croix family blow off some steam, he was willing to take a step back and drop out of the bidding entirely. He genuinely wanted to walk away. I'm only here because I don't want you to look at this situation and think he broke his promise. He really did fight for it."
"But the Hudson family is complicated, and the executives place immense value on this plot of land. Even if he stood his ground against everyone, his absolute refusal would have caused a massive uproar across the entire company. The family would have used it as an excuse to start a war. Ian was under an incredible amount of pressure. So, when he withdrew his proposal, as his mother, I had to protect his position. Without telling him, I submitted another bid on his behalf."
Raelynn wasn't entirely surprised by Cordelia's confession.
It was more or less exactly what she had expected to hear.
The Hudson family was bound to object, and it was only natural for Cordelia, as a mother, to step in and put out the fires for Ian.
"Raelynn, I know this must make you uncomfortable. You probably feel deceived and sidelined." Cordelia took another step closer, her tone earnest. "This is entirely on me. I came here today to apologize. I just didn't want you to misunderstand Ian. His feelings for you are completely genuine."
With things laid out so plainly.
Raelynn couldn't possibly respond with hostility or lack of understanding.
Besides, she had never asked Ian to give up anything for her in the first place.
It was perfectly reasonable for the Hudson family to have their own strategic priorities.
"It's fine, I don't blame him." Raelynn was telling the truth.
Cordelia simply assumed Raelynn had forgiven them both.
She reached out and pulled Raelynn into a warm hug. "Thank you, Raelynn. Don't worry, when you and Ian get married, I absolutely won't let the Croix family give you a hard time. The big day is fast approaching, and we need to focus on throwing a beautiful, joyous wedding."
Raelynn offered a polite smile.
She nodded, her mind elsewhere.
Cordelia was a busy woman, and she left shortly after saying her piece.
Only then did Raelynn finally return Ian's call.
The moment the line connected.
Ian's voice came through, his tone a low, somber rumble. "I thought you were going to ignore me."

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
