Seraphina's eyes went icy cold.
She cast a mocking look at Raelynn, who was sitting right beside Preston.
So that's the trap they set for her!
Sebastian didn't look surprised. "Mr. Moreno, that's not appropriate."
Raelynn wasn't surprised that Sebastian was defending Seraphina. He couldn't bear to see her suffer the slightest grievance.
"It's fine. For the sake of the big picture." Seraphina quickly gathered her thoughts. With her chin slightly raised, she looked at Raelynn. "We are all here for scientific research, to cure illnesses and save lives. I care too much about the team's professional standards and harmony. I hope you won't take offense to my principles as a researcher."
Listening to this, Raelynn let out a soft laugh.
Seraphina certainly knew how to put herself on a pedestal.
In just a few words, what sounded like an apology was actually a veiled insult, all while showing off her own high-minded integrity.
If Raelynn kept holding a grudge now, she would be the one at fault.
"The fact that we were late is indisputable. To make up for everyone's wasted time, I'm willing to invest another fifty million into the project."
Sebastian spoke up at the perfect moment.
Effortlessly turning the page on Seraphina's apology.
Raelynn's grip on her phone tightened subconsciously.
A hint of mockery flashed in her eyes.
How could she not know? Sebastian just didn't want her to keep giving Seraphina a hard time.
Even though she hadn't done anything.
Even though Seraphina hadn't suffered a single loss.
Sebastian was already stepping in, heartbroken and defensive over her.
And adding another massive investment right at this critical moment...
Not only did it keep Seraphina from losing the upper hand, it actively elevated her status.
Sure enough.
As soon as Sebastian spoke, everyone in the room lit up with joy.
They all looked at Seraphina with overwhelming gratitude. "Ms. Vance, Mr. Croix treats you so well! He's thought of absolutely everything for you, and he's so generous. Having you here is such a blessing!"
"Exactly, Ms. Vance. We all know you're someone with a strict bottom line. Our field desperately needs principled people like you."
"I'll gladly take this dose of romance today."
Seraphina slowly smiled, her gaze toward Sebastian growing even softer and sweeter. "Sebastian is just supporting my career. If I can do something for everyone, even if it's just financial support, I'm honored."
Raelynn was sick of watching her husband elevate Seraphina onto a pedestal.
