It sounded like he was consulting her, but Raelynn knew that if Sebastian actually wanted her to go, he wouldn't have phrased it like that.
However...
She frowned at the contact name she still hadn't changed.
For the first time, it made her feel sick to her stomach.
She didn't rush to reply.
First, she deleted the contact name "hubby."
Only then did she reply: [Not free.]
Sebastian: [OK.]
A perfunctory end to the conversation.
He didn't waste a single extra word trying to persuade her.
It was as if typing one more letter was a massive drain on his time and energy.
Yet when it came to Seraphina, even in a work chat for NexusMind and Kingsford University, he was infinitely patient—negotiating, instructing, and managing everything for her.
For all these years.
Raelynn had almost developed a trauma response to his cold "ohs" and "OKs."
Even now, with the divorce on the table.
Seeing a reply like that was like a thorn that had been lodged in her for years, instantly triggering a phantom pain across her entire body.
Raelynn tossed her phone aside.
And went to take a shower.
After work the next day.
Raelynn visited Arthur Ortiz's nursing home.
Her grandfather was still confused.
Raelynn asked him where he wanted to celebrate his 90th birthday.
Arthur had a brief moment of clarity. "Does Sebastian have time? I haven't seen him in so long."
A lump formed in Raelynn's throat.
She didn't understand why her grandfather liked Sebastian so much.
Even when his dementia was so bad he didn't recognize people, he still asked for Sebastian.
The word "divorce" was on the tip of her tongue, but seeing her grandfather's rare look of anticipation, Raelynn choked it back down.
"I'll ask."
After eating with her grandfather, Raelynn showed him a few newly scouted houses for him to pick from.
It was almost ten o'clock by the time she got back to her apartment.
Raelynn thought it over repeatedly.
She pulled out her phone and called Sebastian anyway.
