Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 879

Raelynn had to admit that seeing Ian's message stirred up a complicated mess of emotions. Years ago, she had chosen him to keep Lily's existence completely hidden. And even though Lily had spent most of her time being raised by Professor Finch, Raelynn couldn't deny that Ian had genuinely cared for the little girl.

But now, he was waiting right outside her building.

She knew Ian was still harboring a lot of resentment. But the bond between people had limits—it wasn't infinite, and it shifted depending on the choices they made.

There was never going to be a future for them anyway.

[Ian Hudson]: I brought Lily some gifts and her red envelope. I do it every year, and I'm not skipping this one. I'll wait for you.

Raelynn instinctively glanced toward the living room.

Lily was wedged between Rowan and Arthur. The tiny girl was kneeling on a dining chair, her face bright and flushed, busy pouring water, serving tea, and fetching blankets for her grandmother and great-grandfather. She took her job of caring for her elders very seriously and was completely swamped.

Without alerting Lily, Raelynn grabbed her coat and slipped out the front door.

She couldn't just leave Ian waiting out in the cold.

There were things that needed to be said, face-to-face.

When Raelynn stepped out of the building, snow was drifting down from the night sky. Ian was leaning against his car, and the moment he saw her, a spark of life returned to his somber eyes. He stood up straight, his throat bobbing. "You still came down to see me."

Raelynn pulled her coat tighter against the chill. "It's New Year's Eve. You should head home early."

Ian stared at her, a self-deprecating shadow crossing his gaze. "I made a desperate move, I know. When I found out Sebastian knew Lily was his daughter, I panicked. I was terrified he would beg for you back, and I was terrified you'd give in, so..."

So, knowing full well she didn't want to, he had used Lily to back her into a corner and force an engagement.

But it didn't keep her.

It only pushed her further away.

The thought of starting over with someone else was just too exhausting.

She simply didn't have the fight in her anymore.

Ian remained silent.

But something in his eyes shattered.

He stared at her intensely. "Raelynn, what if I told you I fell in love with you a long time ago? I don't care what you think right now; I will make you forgive me. My feelings for you aren't some cheap thrill I can just toss aside."

Raelynn pressed her lips into a thin line.

She was just about to respond when the steady sound of approaching footsteps broke the silence.

Boots crunching rhythmically against the fresh snow, loud and grating in the quiet night.
