Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 896

The reason for Sebastian's silence.

Was exactly that, and nothing else.

He was terrified she would cling to him.

Raelynn couldn't quite describe the suffocating wave of despair washing over her. It felt like acid burning through her chest. She laughed, looking up into his faintly trembling eyes. "You don't need to worry. I will repay you. I owe you my life, and I'll clear that debt. It won't be the clingy entanglement you're so afraid of."

With that.

Raelynn turned, grabbing a stunned Chloe, and walked away.

Sebastian was desperate to sever all ties with her, so she naturally had to learn her place. Even knowing the truth, she would keep the transaction strictly business. It was what he wanted.

Raelynn's departure was absolute.

Sebastian instinctively raised his hand.

Her arm brushed past his fingertips.

He didn't catch her.

He didn't actually try to.

It was just a raw, involuntary reflex.

He didn't chase after her. He knew far too well that Raelynn was hurting because every action he took was designed to push her away. She wasn't the type to throw herself at someone who clearly didn't want her.

The atmosphere fell into an awkward, bewildered silence.

Cordelia fared no better.

She had just been publicly humiliated in front of half the city's elite.

When Ian finally arrived, he missed Raelynn, but found Sebastian and Cordelia still standing there.

He already knew about the land deal.

He had come to assess the wreckage.

The Hudsons were highly connected. Their political influence alone was staggering, and a family of their stature never played without an ace in the hole. Yet, despite having a guaranteed win, they had lost the bid.

Sebastian was truly ruthless. Even while burning, he made sure the Hudsons choked on the smoke.

Yet.

Sebastian offered a cold, indifferent smirk. "Stab the Croix family in the back all you want. I don't care. Do as you please. As for the land..."

His dark eyes turned lethal. "Ian, the Hudsons constantly used guilt to chain Raelynn down. Your feelings for her are no longer pure. You obsess over whether she stays or goes, over whether she loves you, and in doing so, you've conveniently forgotten what your mother did, and exactly what you owe Raelynn. Haven't you?"

Those words.

Made Ian's pupils constrict in pure ice.

"What do you know?"

"Mrs. Hudson, you and Lydia were old acquaintances over twenty years ago, weren't you?"

Sebastian's words made Cordelia's face drain of all color. Her head snapped up in sheer horror.

Ian's fists clenched. His dark eyes suddenly flared with terrifying clarity. "No wonder... You investigated. That's why you decided to make the Hudsons bleed."
