Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 903

Raelynn Ortiz's grip tightened on her luggage. "He's gone?"

"I just told Professor Robert yesterday that you managed to talk some sense into him," Zella Davenport said. "I tried calling him today to ask when we were leaving, but I couldn't get through. His secretary has no idea where he is. He obviously made a run for it!"

With a life on the line, even Zella was on edge.

Raelynn's expression shifted, and she took a deep breath. "Let's try to track him down first."

This was completely unexpected.

Just yesterday, Sebastian Croix had seemed perfectly normal, agreeing to everything without a fuss.

She had truly believed he was on board.

And now, he had vanished into thin air.

Raelynn contacted Croix Holdings, but Quinn claimed he didn't know anything. She couldn't pry a single piece of useful information out of him.

The dead end filled her with a suffocating sense of dread.

For Sebastian to be so absolute...

Was his condition really that severe?

There was simply no trace of him.

When she regrouped with Zella, Raelynn's expression was grave. "I want to see Professor Robert first. Can you take me to him?"

Only he would know the full truth of the situation.

Zella frowned. "Of course. I always take a two-month vacation every year anyway. Are we just giving up on finding Sebastian, then?"

Raelynn lowered her gaze, her eyes losing focus as her mind raced.

She nervously worried her lower lip.

"If we can't find him right now, we might as well gather some answers first," she said.

They booked the earliest available flight to Switzerland.

Professor Robert was currently in Zurich.

Upon their arrival...

...he had a car waiting to pick them up.

Despite flying first class, the long haul had left Zella irritated. The moment they were settled, she kicked off her heels and crossed her arms with a huff. "That man owes me big time. I have never gone to this much trouble for anyone."

He had rejected her outright, and it was only her own magnanimous nature that kept her from holding a grudge.

Raelynn was entirely distracted.

She leaned against the window, staring blankly at the passing scenery.

When they finally met Professor Robert, he was as sharp and energetic as ever. His eyes locked onto Raelynn, recognizing her instantly. "It's you. You're Eliot's partner, aren't you?"

Raelynn shook her head. "Not anymore. We're divorced."

Professor Robert stroked his beard. "What a shame."

He then glanced at the still-scowling Zella. "And you two became friends? Fascinating."

Zella kept her face stony. "I'm doing charity work. Is that a crime?"

He laughed heartily before his demeanor sobered. He turned back to Raelynn. "While you were in the air, I took the liberty of looking into your background. You're incredibly accomplished, Ms. Ortiz. However, Eliot's condition... it is far more complicated than you might think."

The heavy weight in Raelynn's chest seemed to plummet to her stomach.

"What exactly is wrong with him?" she asked. "Can I see his recent medical records?"

Raelynn finally understood.

Sebastian had lied to her.

He had lied to her yet again.

He had promised to let her be a part of his treatment, knowing full well he was beyond saving.

That was why he had vanished without a word.

"But how could he get something like this?" Zella murmured. An unsettling tightness gripped her chest—a confusing mix of pity and dismay. "Isn't that just forcing him to sit back and watch himself die?"

For a patient to know the exact inevitability of their own demise...

It was a horrifyingly cruel fate.

Raelynn suddenly looked up. "Was he always treated here in Switzerland? What about that specific year?" she asked, naming the date.

Professor Robert thought for a moment, recalling the timeline.

"That year, he was in Canada. He developed other complications and was hospitalized for several months. He didn't leave the facility at all."

Raelynn's fingers curled inward. "Even during the winter? He was in the hospital?"

Professor Robert suddenly slapped his hand against the desk, anger flashing across his face as the memory returned. "Now I remember. I was absolutely furious. His vitals were already crashing, and he actually ripped out his IV and snuck out of the hospital! Even his security detail didn't notice. He didn't return until the following day. We had no idea what he was doing out there, and he flat-out refused to tell us."

Raelynn's throat went bone dry, and she swallowed hard.

The lump in her throat made it painfully difficult.

She knew exactly where he had gone.

That was the day she had flown all the way to Canada, desperate to tell him she was pregnant.
