Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 904

The year she discovered she was pregnant, she had been ecstatic. She endured a grueling flight from Kingsford just to see Sebastian. She only knew the address of his corporate office, not his private residence, so she had called him and waited by the building's entrance.

He hadn't said a word about it then.

He had simply shown up at the office to pick her up.

And after that...

Their reunion had ended in a bitter fallout.

She had tried to gauge his feelings about having a family, but Sebastian had been ice-cold. He had delivered devastatingly cruel words, telling her to abandon any hope of keeping a child.

His sheer callousness had shattered her heart.

The very next day, without asking her to stay, he had his staff purchase her a ticket and send her straight back home.

He hadn't let her linger. He hadn't let her be by his side.

Looking back on it now...

Sebastian had done it all on purpose.

He had sneaked out of the hospital just to meet her. His health had been failing miserably, and if she had stayed even one day longer, her chances of discovering the truth would have skyrocketed.

She had spent all those years believing he simply despised her, assuming he had relocated to Canada strictly to manage overseas operations. Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine he was actually fighting a terminal illness across the world.

"Is everything all right, Ms. Ortiz?"

Professor Robert asked, noticing the sudden pallor of Raelynn's face.

She snapped out of her daze.

Her hands clenched reflexively. "I'm fine," she said, her voice raspy. "But his condition... why was it so dire back then? Why did he need to be hospitalized for so long?"

At her question...

...Professor Robert let out another weary sigh, a spark of indignation lighting up his eyes. "Eliot's situation was far more tragic than I had initially realized. Before the tumor was even diagnosed, he had already been battling an entirely different crisis. He was suffering from severe, chronic poisoning. Left undetected for too long, it was bound to cause catastrophic damage. Those specific toxins decimated his immune system—it's highly likely they triggered the mutation that led to the brain tumor in the first place. Add to that his immense psychological stress. He had barely purged the toxins from his system before the cancer emerged. We simply caught it too late."

Sebastian's body had finally reached its breaking point. He couldn't hold on any longer.

Memories flashed through her mind—every time he had looked her dead in the eye and coldly stated he saw no future for them, every time he had shoved her away. Suddenly, every brutal rejection made agonizing sense.

"If he was being chronically poisoned, it was definitely an inside job. Someone close to him. I bet it was his own relatives," Zella interjected, her exhaustion forgotten as a frigid sneer twisted her beautiful features. "In families like that, blood ties mean absolutely nothing."

"The Croix Family is nothing but a viper's nest," she cursed, shooting a glance at Raelynn. "What were you thinking, marrying a man from a place like that?"

Raelynn lowered her gaze.

"It wasn't something I planned."

But looking back on how that 'accident' came to be, the truth was glaringly obvious. She had been nothing more than a pawn, her worth calculated down to the last cent. She had been orchestrated into his life solely to serve as a weapon to control him.

Given his immense status, forcing him to take a completely ordinary, spectacularly mismatched wife had been a calculated blow. Everyone knew exactly how much damage it would do to his reputation and leverage.

"Professor Robert," Raelynn said, exhaling slowly as a quiet resolve settled in her eyes. "Could I trouble you to compile all of Sebastian's medical records? I want to see everything, down to the smallest detail. Would that be possible?"
