Sebastian saw Raelynn. His gaze rested on her face for two seconds, entirely devoid of emotion, before he gave a polite nod as if they were complete strangers.
There wasn't a single trace of marital affection in his eyes.
Seraphina, meanwhile, wore a bright smile as she greeted Preston. "Mr. Moreno."
She completely ignored Raelynn, offering no friendly greeting whatsoever.
She treated her like empty air.
After all, she was the woman who possessed an official status by Sebastian's side now.
Raelynn found the entire situation utterly farcical.
Introducing a husband's girlfriend to his actual wife.
And yet, she was the one who remained unacknowledged. The status this other woman flaunted was something Raelynn had never been granted.
Julian ignored the brewing disaster and strolled over, one hand casually tucked in his pocket.
He clinked his glass against Luke's.
"No need for introductions. Ms. Ortiz already knows Mr. Croix and... his girlfriend. Who knows, she might even be on their wedding guest list someday."
Julian gave a half-smile, his expression endlessly frivolous and relaxed.
He and Luke were childhood friends.
Luke's sister had married Julian's cousin, making them extended family, so they were naturally close.
Raelynn had clapped back at him multiple times, so he was thoroughly enjoying the wait to see when she would finally snap and lose her temper.
Hearing this.
Sebastian shot Julian a flat, unbothered glance.
It was likely a silent warning to dial back his sick sense of humor.
Seraphina's smile, however, only grew wider. She looked at Raelynn with haughty pride, eagerly playing along with Julian's joke. "If Ms. Ortiz has the time to attend my wedding, that would be wonderful."
Raelynn met Seraphina's gaze.
She saw the deep-seated smugness and contempt lurking within.
Raelynn gave a small nod. "Sure. But no matter how desperate you are to get married, you'll have to wait. Mr. Croix can't get married right now. It's illegal."
Wasn't it?
It was literally bigamy.
Everyone present, except for Luke, instantly caught the hidden meaning in her words.
Even Sebastian gave Raelynn an unreadable look.
Raelynn knew exactly what it meant.
It was a warning to watch her mouth.
He cherished Seraphina so much, there was no way he'd tolerate Raelynn embarrassing her in public.
Seeing her take a hit was a rare sight indeed.
After all, she was always so sharp-tongued whenever she dealt with him.
But for some reason.
Julian frowned.
Watching her retreating back, a strange, inexplicable tug pulled at his chest.
Seraphina noticed his gaze lingering on Raelynn. Her lips pressed together, visibly displeased.
"Julian? What are you thinking about?"
Sebastian also looked his way.
Julian snapped out of it.
He quickly shrugged and let out a laugh.
He had actually felt a brief moment of sympathy for Raelynn. He had almost forgotten how ruthlessly she had forced Sebastian into marriage. She was rotten to her very core. He had nearly lost his mind for a second.
"Nothing."
Seraphina looked doubtful but decided not to dwell on it.
Preston was even less enthusiastic about engaging with Sebastian's group, opting to quietly sip his drink.
Luke didn't revive the previous topic.

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
