"He's not the right guy?" Ethan was surprised. "Don, I thought his background checked all the boxes. It's not easy to find someone like him in Valanthea. Is there something you're concerned about?"
Donovan's expression was stiff. Without offering any explanation, he replied coldly, "There's no other concern. I just don't think he's suitable for the job. I'll keep looking."
Sensing the conversation was over, the butler gestured for the security company representative to leave with Chris.
Chris seemed both disappointed and reluctant to go. He stood frozen for a moment until the representative patted his shoulder to signal him. At that, he turned and silently left.
Giselle couldn't help but watch Chris leave. She noticed the way he carried himself; his posture was straight, his hand was casually tucked into his pocket, and his steps were calm and steady. There was an air of dignity about him that set him apart from the usual bodyguards she had encountered.
Once Chris had left, Giselle let out a frustrated sigh. "I don't get it. What kind of person are you looking for? With everything that's happened recently, we could really use an extra bodyguard now, and you're still nitpicking?
"Ethan's put a lot of effort into finding a guy like that. He's gone out of his way to get someone with a solid background, yet you dismissed him."
"Yeah, Don. Tell us, what was wrong with him?" Ethan chimed in.
He believed that Chris was a solid fit and truly felt it was a missed opportunity.
Donovan was quiet for a long moment, then finally spoke. "It's just a gut feeling. His background is too complicated, and he's from abroad. I don't feel comfortable with someone I can't fully investigate. It's better to pass."
Ethan sighed in frustration. "You're too picky. None of those bodyguard companies out there can measure up. This time, you've got someone who was in both the military and special forces, but now you're saying his background's too complicated? I'm done with this. You figure it out yourself!"
The tension in the air was palpable. At this moment, Dorothea entered the gardens and asked Donovan, "I heard you're looking for a bodyguard? What's all this fuss about? Ethan was helping you look everywhere for one. I mean, it's just a bodyguard, right? Why make things so complicated?"
"That's wonderful!"
Dorothea was overjoyed. She hadn't had a grandchild in years, and hearing this news made her excited. She immediately became concerned. "You have to be extra careful, okay? Watch what you eat and make sure you avoid things that are bad for the baby. You know what to do, right?"
After some thought, she added, "Why don't I move in with you? I'll take care of your meals. With how hot-headed you are, I really don't feel at ease now that you're pregnant."
Dorothea was nervous, looking like she expected trouble at any moment.
Hearing that Dorothea was already wanting to move in with her, Giselle hurriedly but gently declined. "Dorothea, I appreciate your concern, but my pregnancy is still very early. I'm doing fine, and the hired help is taking good care of me. You can come over when I'm further along, but for now, I'm okay."
At that, Grace piped up sarcastically, "Well, looks like you're finally pregnant. But Giselle, have you seen the doctor about your condition? Will it affect your child? You need to get all the proper tests, just to be sure. After all, you shouldn't risk passing anything on to the poor child."
