"Will you stop saying such things?" Ethan reprimanded Grace from the side.
But Grace didn't back down, and she grew even more animated instead.
"I'm just looking out for them! Pregnancy is a big deal, you know? It's obvious that the Kanes have been passing down healthy genes for generations. What if Giselle ends up having a sick child? I know someone who's like that…"
Before Grace could finish, Donovan wrapped his arm around Giselle's shoulder and began walking away. He didn't want to bother dealing with a woman like that, who was just trying to stir up trouble and destroy the family's peace.
Dorothea, who had been watching, couldn't stand it anymore. With a stern expression, she said to Grace, "We're family after all. Don't say such harsh things. Giselle's illness isn't hereditary, so there's no reason to think it'll affect the baby. She's pregnant now, so stop making her more stressed out! You should be setting a good example as her sister-in-law instead!"
At these words, Grace flushed. She turned and stormed off in irritation.
Clearly, Dorothea was far more concerned with Donovan and Giselle. Now that she had the good news, she was all worked up and rushed over to Giselle with a barrage of concerns. She even mentioned arranging for two of her cooks to go over to Giselle's home and look after Giselle's daily meals.
She then noticed Giselle's injured hand that was bandaged and immediately held it while saying with worry, "What happened to your hand? It looks pretty serious! Your fingers are swollen."
"Oh, it's nothing," Giselle replied, smiling.
She couldn't possibly tell Dorothea about the encounter with Anne. So, she fibbed, "I was neutering a dog at the clinic, and it bit me pretty badly."
Giselle decided to blame the dog for all her injuries now.
"You got bitten by a dog?" Dorothea's face grew pale with worry. "Did you get a rabies shot? This could be dangerous, especially with you being pregnant! You must be careful! Don't go handling those cats and dogs anymore; they might pose a risk to the baby. Oh, and don't go running around or climbing up and down…"
"Mom, can you stop nagging?" Donovan snapped impatiently. "Everything will be fine as long as you stop nagging. I know how to take care of my wife and child. You can stop with the advice and just do your thing. Just come to the hospital and hold your grandchild nine months from now. Stop worrying!"
