"What's going on?" Donovan was the first to ask.

"D-Downstairs, an employee was…" The female manager was so nervous she could barely speak.

She continued tremblingly, "S-Someone grabbed Ms. Liddle from our department… That person said they wanted to see you, Ms. Holt. T-They want you to be there at once!"

"Who is it? Did someone get into a fight? What happened?"

Giselle stood up immediately. She was already heading toward the door, ready to follow the manager out.

"That person brought a knife," the manager finally revealed the important part. They're holding one of our employees hostage. It's terrifying! They keep shouting that they want to see you!"

The moment Donovan heard the word "hostage", he tensed up. At once, he held Giselle back. "Stay here and don't go anywhere. I'll handle it."

"This is serious, and the person specifically asked for me. How could I not go?" Giselle argued.

She then slipped past him and rushed out of the meeting room, heading downstairs.

Seeing how determined she was, Donovan could only follow with a dark expression.

They took the elevator to the first floor. As they pushed through the crowd that was gathering, Giselle was about to rush forward when Donovan yanked her back.

"It's dangerous. Don't get too close!" he warned quietly in her ear.

Only then did Giselle see what was happening. Under a large tree about 30 feet away, a middle‑aged man was holding a female employee at knifepoint.
