Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 682

"5,000," Chris casually stated when he heard the question.

"5,000 Usnian dollars?" Giselle chimed in.

Considering Chris had lived abroad, she assumed he was talking about Usnian dollars. That would translate to about thirty to forty thousand Valanthean dollars, which seemed like a reasonable amount for a bodyguard's monthly salary.

To her surprise, Chris replied, "5,000 Valanthean dollars."

Giselle laughed. "That's way too low. Don't be so modest. I think you're more than worth 5,000 Usnian dollars based on what I've seen today."

Donovan finally spoke up, settling on the salary. "We'll go with 50,000 Valanthean dollars a month and a three-month probation period."

Chris seemed unfazed by the salary offer and gave no indication of surprise or excitement. He simply nodded and agreed, "Okay."

With the details settled, Donovan quickly gave his instructions. "Bring your passport, visa, and any other necessary documents tomorrow morning. We'll get you officially onboard at my house."

"Okay," Chris responded, his previously stoic expression softening slightly, and his gaze flickered.

"By the way, where are you staying?" Giselle asked curiously. "Do you own a place, or are you renting?"

"I'm renting a place," Chris replied.

Donovan paused for a moment before telling him that he could bring his luggage to the villa. After all, Chris had to be available at all times for security, so it would be easier if he could live in the villa's staff quarters.

"You may leave now."

Donovan added, "Remember, be on time. Bring your documents."

"I just think this guy's a bit strange."

Giselle gazed out the window at Chris walking away. There was something about his figure that felt oddly familiar, but she couldn't place it.

"Well, we'll see how he does during the probation period."

Donovan's gaze fell on Giselle's hand, which was still healing, and he was reminded of both Anne's attack on Giselle and the hostage situation that had just taken place. He knew that securing a bodyguard was an immediate priority. They needed protection, no matter who the bodyguard was.

"Okay."

Giselle finally relaxed a little. The thought of having found the right person for the job brought her a sense of relief.
