Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 717

Seeing Chris, usually so stoic and reserved, suddenly ask such a question, Giselle could not help but chuckle.

"Yeah," she praised him without holding back. "Why? Are you that insecure?

"Look at you. You're handsome, capable of anything, and you know how to handle everything. You make a woman feel very safe!"

Hearing these words from Giselle for the first time, Chris couldn't quite believe his ears. His blood ran hot, and he stared at her, momentarily dazed.

Giselle, however, was looking down at a message on her phone and missed the subtle changes in his expression. When she finally looked up, her eyes locked with his intense, unblinking gaze.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" Giselle did not feel awkward. Instead, she laughed.

Having spent so much time together, she treated Chris not just as a bodyguard or assistant she could order around, but almost like a close friend. The dynamic between them had always been easygoing.

However, every time she made eye contact with him, a vague shadow would flicker in her mind. If she tried to think deeper, a sharp headache would set in.

Besides the epilepsy, the severe injuries from her fall off the cliff had left her with memory issues. Her memories of the past were hazy, and the traumatic memories were complete blanks.

Just then, Chris' phone rang.

He pulled it out, glanced at the screen, and saw the familiar name. Frowning, he hung up immediately.

A few minutes later, a text message alert chimed.

Chris ignored it.

He accompanied Giselle to a meeting, and in the afternoon, he drove her to inspect one of the stores. It was not until late in the day that he finally had a moment of peace.

Near the end of his shift, he took a smoke break and finally opened the text message.

The message read, "Come see me tonight. If you don't, you know the consequences."

Seeing Chris walking alone on the road at this hour, Donovan told the driver to stop.

"Where are you going?" Donovan rolled down the window and asked coldly.

Chris repeated the excuse he had given Giselle, word for word.

Hearing that he was meeting a friend, Donovan did not think much of it, but he asked warily, "Why aren't you driving one of the cars?"

Chris took a quiet breath. "I'm off the clock. I can't use your car for personal reasons, so I was going to hail a cab."

"From now on, use the family cars for all your travel. Go back and get one!"

With that command, Donovan signaled the driver to drive on.
