"What kind of matter requires our opinion?" Giselle asked, puzzled.
"It's…" Ethan hesitated.
He glanced at Grace, then at Dorothea, and finally rested his gaze on Donovan. "It's about Gideon's marriage."
Hearing Gideon's name, Giselle's expression stiffened.
Donovan's face instantly darkened.
Grace, however, did not hold back. She immediately launched into a tirade. "You handle that bastard's marriage yourself! Why bring it up at our table? What on earth does his life have to do with us?"
Dorothea, on the other hand, perked up. "You said Gideon's marriage? Why? Is he planning to settle down?"
Ethan fell silent for a few seconds, clearly finding it difficult to broach the subject. "He recently found a girlfriend, and she's pregnant. He wants to marry her."
"Is that so?" Dorothea's interest piqued even further. "He's getting married? Which family is the girl from? What's her background? Gideon is nearly 30. It's high time he started a family."
"The girl is…" Ethan looked deliberately at Donovan. "She's the youngest daughter of the Sterling family. Marselle Sterling."
Hearing that Marselle had not only gotten involved with Gideon but was also pregnant and planning to marry him, Donovan's eyes snapped open in shock.
Giselle was equally stunned. She never imagined things between Gideon and Marselle would develop so quickly that she could barely process it.
"Marselle Sterling?"
Grace had always despised Gideon, but hearing Marselle's name made her eyes widen in disbelief.
Fortunately, Dorothea stepped in to smooth things over. "But is this true? Is Ms. Sterling really carrying Gideon's child? Did they actually fall for each other?"
Ethan knew Gideon's personality well and could guess the situation.
He sighed. "I can't control their romantic entanglements. But since Gideon has proposed marriage, I wanted to ask for your opinions. Should we agree to this union?"
Giselle kept her head down, staring at her plate. She remained silent, her expression unreadable.
Donovan, however, gave his cold verdict. "You are his father. If you agree, that's the end of it. It has absolutely nothing to do with Giselle or me. You don't need to ask us."
With that, he picked up his half-full glass of red wine and drained it in one gulp.
