One afternoon at the group's headquarters, Donovan was meeting with a female official from the National Drug Administration, Georgia Laker.
Georgia was paying a symbolic visit to Kane Pharmaceutical Group's production workshops. She had been sent there to familiarize herself with several new products that the group would be launching that year, and she seemed to be enjoying Donovan's company very much.
Chris accompanied them throughout, instructing the secretary to arrange an evening banquet to entertain their visitor. After working until about five or six in the afternoon, when most topics on the agenda had been covered, Donovan politely suggested continuing the rest of the discussion over dinner.
"Dinner?" Georgia lifted her wrist to check her watch. "It's not even six yet! Let's skip the meal. I'm on a diet anyway, so I don't eat dinner these days. Why don't we keep talking in your office?"
"Let's go eat first, or at least have a few drinks," Donovan advised with a half-smile. "We've booked your favorite seafood restaurant this time specifically for you. The air-flown salmon and lobster are all waiting for you to grace the occasion!"
"But I really don't feel like eating." Lounging back on the couch, Georgia looked at Donovan with a hint of flirtation in her smile. "See? My face has gotten so chubby. I really do need to cut down on weight!"
"What's there to cut down with your nice figure? Come on! Let's go together," Donovan urged.
Georgia's advances became even bolder after hearing his compliment. She narrowed her eyes seductively. "Oh, Mr. Kane, you do know how to flatter a woman. What exactly do you even see in my figure? I'm no spring chicken. There's no way I can compare with those pretty young women."
Donovan avoided her gaze, shifting the topic coolly. "Come on. Just humor me, won't you? Let's get something to eat."
But Georgia still showed no desire to leave. Turning to her assistant, Sally Little, she said, "Sally, you head back first. I have something important to discuss with Mr. Kane in private."
"Alright." Sally quickly left the office, obeying the command without a word.
But acting as though he hadn't seen anything, he reported to Donovan in a businesslike tone, "The dinner's been arranged, Mr. Kane. When should we head out?"
Not wanting to make things too awkward, Donovan decided to clarify matters with Georgia in private.
"You step out first. I'll let you know when we're leaving."
Chris quietly left the office without any questions, closing the door on his way out.
"What a strange assistant you have," tutted Georgia. "He didn't even knock before coming in. Not the slightest bit of tact!"
