Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 779

"You wouldn't have had the chance to shoot me if I wanted you dead, let alone escape from that place," Chris replied as he looked straight into her eyes.

Giselle inhaled sharply as she recalled those terrible two months she'd endured.

She had to admit that he had a point.

It would've been as easy as pie for him to gut her like a fish if he wanted. Instead, he'd continued to indulge her every whim. He never once tried to kill her. In the end, he'd even allowed her to slip through his fingers.

"Then, why did you go to such lengths to come to Valanthea just to find me? Aren't you here to get back at me?" Giselle glared at him hatefully, seemingly wanting to set him on fire where he stood.

Chris didn't answer her question immediately. In fact, he took his time.

He turned slightly, avoiding her gaze. Then, he walked to the window and took in the view, unsure how he could give her a passing answer.

Initially, he had come to Valanthea with hatred in his heart. His goal wasn't to kill her, but to drag her back to his world.

However, that changed when he found her. Once he'd managed to come in contact with her life, he learned that she wasn't some ordinary Jane. Instead, she was an heiress and now, a wealthy socialite.

Her background and power in Valanthea made it so that she wasn't a target he could easily whisk away.

Regardless, he'd reconsidered his plan of action after spending the past six months with her. He'd decided against abducting her back to Gold Delta. Instead, he would rather hide his identity for a lifetime and stay by her side as her bodyguard, protecting her forever.

"Tell me!" Giselle couldn't help but worry that he was cooking up another scheme when he remained silent, so she pressed, "Why are you here?"

She'd never imagined that he would survive the ordeal. Even worse, that he would be alive and well, well enough to execute a scheme just to be part of her social circle. She hadn't expected him to get a completely new identity just to play her for a fool.

It definitely didn't help that she had never once suspected him.

Giselle's vision swam when she thought of that. Still, she didn't dare fall prey to her agitation once more, forcing herself to rein in her emotions and face this upheaval as calmly as she could.

Chris had already buttoned his shirt and approached her when she was still stuck in memory lane. Then, he gazed deeply into her eyes and solemnly vowed, "Nora Holt, I've never once thought of killing you. I only wanted you to stay by my side forever. If you ran, I would look for you."

Although he hadn't straight out confessed his feelings to her, the restrained yet passionate look in his eyes was more than enough to convey his feelings.
