Giselle's heart began pounding once more. However, it wasn't out of delight, but from panic and fear.

She had a hunch when it came to his feelings for her back when she was trapped in Gold Delta. That was why she wasn't afraid to risk it all just to approach him, using him as a stepping stone for her eventual escape.

Now, Chris was dogging her steps like an unwanted spectre. He'd even confessed his romantic feelings to her after keeping his identity a secret for nearly a year. She wasn't touched by his actions, only terrified of them.

"You have to leave. Now!" She had struggled with her decision, but she still said, "Leave now. Right now! Get the earliest plane out of Valanthea and stay far, far away from me. Even better, go back where you came from!

"I won't call the cops on you since you've been a 'dutiful' employee and merciful enough not to kill us where we sleep. We're square now. I can pretend you never even existed as long as you vanish without a trace. Go!"

Chris remained standing as still as a statue, staring at her unblinkingly.

"Leave!" Giselle only felt a dearth of complicated emotions toward him and none of them good, as she screamed, "Get lost! Keep dawdling, and you won't be able to leave even if you wanted to!"

Although Chris was reluctant to go, he had no choice but to accept his fate.

"Fine." His voice came out hoarse. "I can leave. However, you have to promise me one thing before I do."

"Name it."

"Don't tell Donovan the truth."
