Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 784

As night fell, she washed up and retired for the night with Donovan. Before she slept, she stared blankly at the ceiling and asked, "Oh, have you spoken to Chris? Did you approve his resignation?"

"No, I assigned him an urgent task." Donovan was already rather sleepy, so his answer was vague. "He wouldn't have time to think about leaving if I keep him busy."

Giselle's heart sank when she heard that Chris hadn't left and had even agreed to help out, which meant he likely wouldn't be leaving for quite some time.

It seemed that no sleep would be coming for her that night.

She recalled how Chris had been brought to the villa for an interview and how he'd rescued hostages at the company the next time they met. Then, she continued to recall his "acts of loyalty" after he became one of their bodyguards and how "rough" he'd been to Anne.

Only then did it dawn on her how meticulous he had been as he schemed to become part of her life. He'd been so thorough that neither she nor Donovan had seen through his act. Instead, they grew to trust him more and more. The more she thought about it, the more fearful she became.

After a while, her mind replayed how ruthless he had been back at Sithora. He had viciously forced those innocent girls to their demise and ruthlessly gunned down his allies for money and self-interest. He had been inhumane.

Now, she understood how Anne ended up where she was.

Giselle nearly keeled over when she thought of how Donovan regarded a dangerous figure, who was willing to kill as long as he suited him, as a confidant. In fact, he'd even spent most of his time with Chris day in and day out.

So much so that it was likely that Chris was in the know when it came to Kane Pharmaceutical Group's trade secrets; even worse, he probably knew Donovan inside and out by now. He could easily stab him in the back at any moment. Chris was a ticking time bomb, a nuclear one.

The longer she dwelled on the Chris-Orin issue, the worse she felt.

She couldn't sleep a wink. So, she made up her mind to tell Donovan everything when they were having breakfast. She had to tell him so he'd be able to make proper precautions against Chris.

"What's wrong?" Donovan couldn't help but ask when he saw her holding a biscuit and not taking a bite. There was a look of worry on her face that made him continue, "Are you feeling unwell? I'll take a day off if you are. You know what? Let's go to the hospital."
