Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 789

Chris fell silent upon hearing Georgia's words. After a beat, he said, "I'm going back to Malithorn in a while."

"Back to Malithorn?" Georgia was somewhat surprised. "What do you mean? Are you going there for a business trip?"

"No."

"Then, why are you going back? Aren't you doing just fine working for Donovan?"

Georgia wrapped her arms tighter around his, speaking bluntly, "Don't you go running off! I can get you a new job if you're not happy with the one you're doing. Who's going to keep me company if you leave?"

Chris didn't know how to explain his circumstances. So, he fell silent once more, allowing Georgia to lean against him while his thoughts drifted far, far away.

"By the way, I have a question. Do you still plan on getting married someday?" Georgia asked.

"No, never again." He didn't even hesitate to give her that answer when it came to this topic.

He'd long since lost any desire for marriage after suffering the devastating loss of his wife and children. Honestly, he absolutely didn't want more children. At this point, he was just taking life as it came.

"Not getting married is good," Georgia answered, very satisfied with his decision. After all, she wasn't getting any younger and had a child studying abroad. So, divorce wasn't an option for her.

It really was quite a stroke of luck for her to get her claws on an "anti-marriage" man like Chris, who'd been traumatized by his marital history.

So, her demeanor toward him softened further as she coaxed, "Then, let's date. I promise to treat you well if we're exclusive."

Given her current position within the government, he should feel flattered that she'd taken the initiative to offer something like this to him.

"I thought your condition would be asking me to get a divorce. It turns out you're only doing this for your boss' interests," Georgia remarked as she curled her lips in a teasing smile after hearing his request.

"You're quite the dutiful employee, aren't you? To think you'd still be talking shop with me at a time like this. Did Donovan send you just to smooth things over with me?" Georgia wasn't offended or angry as she teased Chris. In fact, part of her even supported Donovan's decision.

After all, she had originally set her sights on Donovan.

She had already put her offer on the table. Alas, Donovan kept turning her down, leaving her a bit embarrassed. She'd then pretended not to care and accepted Chris' company in order to preserve her dignity.

To her surprise, she was very pleased with Chris' performance. One could even say he'd completely "conquered" her in a certain respect. As they spent yet another night together, she couldn't resist leaving her power and status at the door.

Now, all she wanted to do was forget and pretend that she was just another ordinary woman as she enjoyed her time to the fullest.
