Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 820

Giselle was done speaking and no longer had the desire to speak another word to Chris.

"The nanny will be bringing Emma back any minute, and the medical staff will be here shortly. If you don't want anyone else to know about this, then leave."

With the matter seemingly settled, Chris said nothing more and turned to leave the room.

Once he was gone, a wave of weakness washed over Giselle, and a cold chill ran down her spine. Her mind was in a state of total chaos; she felt utterly lost, unsure what to do.

She could tell Chris only wanted the money. Apart from that, he had asked for nothing else.

If she told Donovan the truth now, it would likely enrage Chris, prompting him to do something extreme—something from which there would be no return. She couldn't take that risk. As a new mother, her instinct to protect her child was absolute. She didn't want Emma in danger, and she didn't want Donovan dragged into another legal nightmare.

If losing this money meant eliminating the threat, she was willing to pay the price.

She pulled out her phone to check the cash flow in her personal accounts, calculating the fastest way to move such a massive sum.

Two hours later, a text arrived with Chris' overseas bank account details.

Immediately after, a second message followed.

"Can you send all the money tomorrow?"

"It's possible. But you must keep your end of the deal. Once the money hits your account, you take the earliest flight and leave."

"Don't worry. As long as you do your part, I'll keep my word."

"And before you leave, you will destroy every bit of evidence you have in front of me! If you ever use it to threaten him again, you know what the consequences will be."

Her heart melted, deeply moved by the sight.

Donovan had become a father at 35, a bit later than most, but that maturity made his love feel more grounded—more unconditional.

By the time Emma was finally settled, the night was old. They lay in bed, leaning against each other with eyes closed, yet both were miles away in their own thoughts.

Eventually, exhaustion from nursing took its toll, and Giselle drifted off before midnight. She had woken up twice last night to nurse Emma.

But Donovan, usually a sound sleeper, found himself tossing and turning. He eventually sat up and turned on the lamp, planning to have a cigarette to settle his mind.

His eyes fell on Giselle's phone just then. It was carelessly shoved under her arm as usual. Even as a new mother, she still couldn't break this habit.

He reached over to gently pull the device away, intending to plug it in on the bedside table to charge; its battery was low. But as he set the phone down, a memory flickered in his mind—something the nurse had mentioned to him when he first walked in that evening.
