The Ravenshire family reacted quickly.
By the time Caspian returned to Obsidian Estate, the second and third branches of the family had already gathered.
“Dad!” Talia, upon hearing that Bianca was in trouble, was beside herself with fear. She had nothing left now; her daughter was her entire life. “Bianca…”
Lucian Ravenshire and Benedict quickly held her back. Lucian spoke up, “Dad, we’ve already heard everything from Dorian. Our Benedict has also arranged for people in Alderwick. Benedict and I are worried, so we’d like to go there ourselves.”
“I’m going too,” Talia said, her eyes red as she tried her best to remain calm.
Caspian nodded and glanced toward the second branch of the family.
Leander immediately stated his position. “Dad, the Ravenshire Group’s lumber base is in Alderwick. I’ve already arranged for the workers there to join the search. They’re all locals, so they’ll have an easier time. I had arranged for a helicopter, but there’s a thunderstorm in Alderwick right now, so they’ll have to take the mountain roads.”
“Dad.”
Just then, Evelyn Ravenshire rushed into the hall. Seeing that everyone was there, she breathed a sigh of relief. “Dad, I just heard about what happened in Alderwick. I called Charles Arlington. He’s in Gold Hill right now, and I asked him to bring more men to Alderwick to help.”
Gold Hill was adjacent to Alderwick, only an hour’s drive away. With the Arlington family’s help, Alaric’s safety would be even more secure.
Seeing his family so united, the old master’s tense expression relaxed slightly.
“Dorian and Leander will stay. Benedict, Lucian, and Talia will come with me to Alderwick.”
Everyone was stunned and quickly tried to dissuade him.
Dorian said, “Dad, the weather in Alderwick is terrible right now. You should stay here. I’ll go. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to bring all three children back safe and sound.”
“Boom!”
A bolt of purple lightning streaked across the sky, momentarily illuminating the dark horizon as if it were day.
Alaric frowned slightly. That had been his earlier thought. But now, with the rain pouring down, the mountain terrain would be slick and treacherous. If they were to slip and fall again, things could get much worse.
Elder Mrs. Crowhurst finally managed to compose herself. She nodded and summoned the estate’s steward, instructing him to find the town mayor.
The Ravenshire family held considerable prestige in Alderwick. They had funded the construction of the town’s chapel and community hall. For that reason alone, the townspeople would not stand by idly.
Half an hour later, the residents of Alderwick Town, clad in raincoats, gathered in front of the chapel, their torches flickering precariously in the storm.
Wesley stood in the rain, holding a massive black umbrella. Alaric stood beneath it, watching the long line of people slowly disappear into the distance.
