Tessa was airing out the quilts in the courtyard. Seeing the girl running in in a panic, she assumed something terrible had happened. "Bianca, what's wrong?"
Bianca looked around frantically. "Nanny, where's my mom?"
Ever since they returned from Alderwick, Bianca had started calling Tessa 'Nanny'. At first, Tessa wasn't used to it and would often tear up, but she had gotten much better at handling the affectionate title.
"She left port," Tessa explained. "She said she needed to buy some school supplies for Miss Lexton."
"Left port?!" Bianca muttered to herself. "Why now of all times?"
Whenever Talia Ravenshire went on a shopping spree out at sea, she wouldn't return for days.
"What happened?" Tessa asked gently. "Why are you in such a rush?"
Bianca grabbed Tessa's hands. "It's not me, it's Vivi. Nanny, I can't explain it all right now, but do you have a way to contact Mom?"
Talia regularly scheduled these off-the-grid trips, and normally, no one could reach her during this time. But Bianca knew Tessa definitely had a way; given Talia's fiercely protective nature, she would never allow herself to completely lose contact with her daughter's inner circle for long.
Hearing it was about Vivienne, Tessa patted Bianca's hand. "Don't panic. Follow me."
The two of them went into the inner room. Tessa pulled out an unusually clunky satellite phone, expertly dialed a number, and handed it to Bianca.
"Tessa?" The call connected quickly, though the line was filled with static and the faint crashing of ocean waves.
Bianca gripped the phone tightly, her voice frantic. "Mom, when are you coming back? You need to hurry. Vivi and I are being bullied to death over here."

Vellmont Lodge.
Vivienne had changed into a clean set of clothes. Her female assistants thoroughly inspected her to ensure she didn't have a single scratch before finally going to report to Caspian Ravenshire.
Vivienne glanced at the label hovering above Aurelia's head again, gave a soft "Oh," and said nothing more.
"Ah, everyone's here."
A moment later, Caspian entered the room, supported by Benedict. In the massive hall, each of the teenagers occupied their own distant corner. Caspian swept a casual glance over them before slowly making his way to the head of the dining table.
"You've all had a long day. You must be starving. Let's eat first."
The boys slowly got up, completely ignoring one another, and obediently took their seats.
Bianca pulled Vivienne away to sit as far from Aurelia as possible. Just as they were about to sit down, Caspian tapped his knuckles against the table.
"Vivi, come sit by Grandpa."
