The family meeting adjourned, and the teenagers scattered to their respective wings.
Benedict had been waiting on the porch for Aurelia. When she came out, he gently patted her head. "Let's go. Time to head home."
Aurelia watched Vivienne and Bianca laughing as they walked toward the inner courtyard, a look of deep envy on her face. "Dad, I wish I could live in Obsidian Estate too."
That way, she could see Grandpa and Alaric every single day.
Benedict paused, immediately understanding the root of her sadness as he looked at Vivienne and Bianca's retreating backs.
Aurelia panicked, quickly trying to explain herself. "I don't mean I don't want to live with you, Dad! I just... I just..."
Benedict shook his head with a warm smile. "I'm not mad. Actually, it works out perfectly. I have to leave port next week and will be gone for a while. I'll talk to Grandpa about having you stay here."
Aurelia nodded eagerly, a bright smile lighting up her face. But her joy faded quickly. "Dad, is my personality really annoying? It feels like everyone dislikes me. Even Julian keeps saying I'm sick in the head."
Benedict's expression instantly darkened. That little punk Julian needed a beating. How dare he talk to his daughter like that?
Realizing she had misspoken, Aurelia hurriedly backtracked. "Dad, I didn't mean it like that, I just..."
Benedict let out a long sigh. "Lia, in my eyes, you are the most wonderful girl in the world. You don't need to care about what anyone else thinks. As long as you're happy, that's all that matters to me."
Aurelia gave a soft hum of agreement and gripped his hand tightly.
"Thanks, Dad."
She had lost her mother at a young age. During the years Benedict controlled the underworld, no matter how close he came to death, he would always wipe the blood off his hands and rush home in time to read her a bedtime story. To Aurelia, Benedict was an immovable mountain who would never abandon her.
Julian stared at him, hesitated for a second, and then chased after him.
Alaric paused, his gaze lingering on Cyril's back for a moment, before finally turning toward his own courtyard.
"Cyril."
Cyril stopped and looked over his shoulder. "What?"
Julian's gaze shifted nervously. "Yeah, I just... I wanted to ask you how you actually did it."
Cyril raised an eyebrow. "Did what?"
"Cut the crap, you know exactly what I'm asking. We're both men, we have the exact same anatomy. How did you manage to have zero physical reaction?" Julian's eyes unconsciously drifted downward. "Are you... impotent?"
