"Mr. Cyril, you're back?"
The moment Cyril stepped into Blackbriar Wing, Lennox greeted him.
The new butler was personally handpicked by Caspian. He was steady, fiercely competent, and within just a few days, he had the entire estate running like clockwork.
Cyril rarely found anyone satisfactory, but Lennox barely made the cut.
He nodded, his tone mild. "Lennox, I want to move the plants from my balcony down to the yard for some sun. Could you come help me for a moment?"
"Right away, sir."
Lennox was a man of strict boundaries. Without Cyril's explicit permission, he would never step foot inside his private quarters. Even for routine cleaning, he would inform Cyril a day in advance and absolutely never touched sensitive areas like his desk or drawers.
Following Cyril into the bedroom, Lennox kept his eyes straight, walking directly toward the balcony.
Cyril casually strolled over to his desk. Just as Lennox walked past him carrying a potted plant, Cyril slowly unzipped his backpack.
*Hiss.*
A sharp sound sliced through the quiet room.
Lennox's eyes flashed. Without missing a beat, he snatched the backpack straight from Cyril's hands and hurled it off the second-story balcony.
"Lennox?" Cyril acted completely caught off guard, looking at the butler in confusion.
Lennox pointed sternly at the yard below. "Sir, there's a snake."
"A snake?" Cyril feigned shock and rushed out to the balcony.
Down on the pavement, the backpack had spilled open. A small, aggressively patterned snake slithered out of the zipper.
But it wasn't just one. Dozens of them began pouring out of the crevices. Within seconds, the entire backpack was writhing with thin, coiled snakes.
"How could there be snakes in my bag?"
Cyril's eyes were wide with perfectly feigned disbelief.
Lennox's expression turned grim. "They're Red-necked Keelbacks. The venom isn't highly lethal, but for anyone with severe allergies, it could be fatal. Sir, should I report this to the patriarch?"
Meanwhile, at Vellmont Lodge.
Vivienne sat cross-legged on the lounge chair, her mind racing. Perhaps because she had finally pieced together the timeline of Caspian's murder, her brain was running on high alert.
The Narrative Spirit had stated that Cyril was the other male lead of this world. Unlike Alaric, who was essentially born at the finish line, Cyril was on an underdog's rise-to-power arc.
"Rise to power." Vivienne chewed on those words, her eyes suddenly lighting up.
How could she have forgotten something so monumental?
Right before she got engaged to Alaric, a massive earthquake shook the Ravenshire family! The usually favored Cyril had committed some unforgivable sin that sent Caspian into a blind rage. The patriarch didn't just kick him out of Obsidian Estate—he ruthlessly exiled Cyril from Athelvia altogether.
On the day Cyril came to say his final goodbyes, Vivienne happened to be at Northwing Court. The patriarch's eyes were entirely bloodshot from crying, yet he viciously refused to open the door to see his grandson one last time.
Cyril's face was completely devoid of emotion. He stood solemnly outside the courtyard gates, bowing his head deeply three times in a final gesture of farewell.
As he straightened his posture, Caspian's chilling voice echoed from behind the closed doors. "Cyril, you're grown now. Grandpa can't control you anymore. But if you still care about the seven years we spent together, promise me one thing."
