Vivienne blinked in surprise, her gaze involuntarily drifting toward Talia.
Victoria's expression twisted into something ugly. "Talia, stop joking. She already has a mother. Besides, she's practically grown. Do you really think you can bond with her now?"
Bianca flared up instantly, stepping forward to start a shouting match.
But Talia didn't give her the chance. She fired back without an ounce of politeness. "Whether I can bond with her is my business, Victoria. You don't need to stress yourself over it. I've delivered my message and my gifts. I strongly suggest you watch your step from now on."
Bianca froze. Suddenly, her eyes filled with absolute awe as she stared at her mother.
She had been furious when Talia dragged her out to apologize, but if this was what her mother meant by an 'apology,' she was completely on board.
The fake smile completely vanished from Victoria's face. She glared at Talia. "Is this your idea of an apology?"
"If you aren't satisfied, I can switch to a different method," Talia replied coolly. "Though I highly doubt Dorian would want to see that."
Victoria stood up, looking down at the woman on the couch. "What exactly is that supposed to mean?"
Talia stood up to match her, the sheer arrogance of a high-society heiress blazing in her eyes. "Cut the attitude, Victoria. You only got lucky with the times. A hundred years ago, you'd be nothing but the wife of a secondary heir, and decades from now, your husband is just going to be a second-string footnote. You don't even have the right to carry my shoes, let alone demand that my daughter kneel before you."
"You!"
Victoria had constantly used Cyril's status as an illegitimate son to humiliate him. Now, Talia was hurling that exact same insult right back at her. The humiliation stung like a physical blow.
Vivienne and Bianca exchanged a subtle glance, mentally giving Talia a standing ovation.
