Sienna had only said the word "fun," but Vivienne had already seen right through to her core.
It turned out that when you looked back after having lived through so much, the cracks had been visible the entire time.
Vivienne lowered her eyes and chuckled softly.
In her previous life, because she and Bianca were constantly causing trouble at Alderwick, the old man punished them by delaying their return. As a result, they missed Alaric's Homecoming Banquet completely.
But that made sense. This Ravenshire banquet was one of the Narrative Realm's major plot points. The fifteen and sixteen-year-old male and female leads shone brilliantly, networking and testing the waters. It was their grand debut into the circle of power. In such a crucial scene, the old versions of Vivienne and Bianca weren't even qualified to serve as stepping stones.
Lara flashed a malicious grin. "Told you it was fun, didn't I? Normal banquets are just eating and drinking. Where's the excitement in that?"
Sienna looked over her shoulder at Cyril. "Cyril, are you going to play?"
Before Cyril could answer, Lara cut in. "Of course he is. Alaric already approved it."
Sienna frowned, her smile dimming a fraction. A second later, her grin returned as she completely ignored Lara's voice and looked earnestly at Cyril. "Are you going to play?"
Cyril nodded. "I'll respect the rules of the game."
With that, the amusement in Sienna's eyes deepened. "Then I'm in too."
Vivienne turned her head uncomfortably, shielding her eyes with her hand.
Bianca quietly leaned closer. "What's wrong?"
Vivienne narrowed her eyes. "Nothing. It just feels a bit blinding."
Suddenly, she realized something and looked at Bianca with a jolt of surprise.
Just a moment ago, when Sienna looked at Cyril, an intense, brilliant white glow had erupted around the two of them. In the instant that protagonist halo enveloped them, the surrounding flowers, the architecture—even Lara standing right there—seemed to fade out of existence.
But not Bianca. Her crystal-clear eyes still perfectly reflected every blade of grass and flower in the courtyard, along with Vivienne's stunned, ecstatic expression.
Bianca hadn't faded into a paper-thin background character.
A sudden flash of insight pierced Vivienne's mind. Could it be that anyone who tore off their label could break free from the narrative entirely?
