Chaos Girl Rewrites the Script novel Chapter 273

The two 'pompous jerks' were currently holding court in the VIP circle.

Alaric stood dutifully beside Caspian, while Cyril flanked Dorian.

Though Dorian had been reassigned to Merriton City, everyone at the table knew it was only a matter of time before he was promoted back to the capital. As a result, the older generation treated him with impeccable, polished courtesy.

The inner circle was occupied by the heads of both old-money dynasties and rising powerhouse families. The outer ring was reserved for the most favored heirs of those respective bloodlines. The space was overwhelmingly male-dominated.

Madame Cavanaugh sat perfectly poised, wearing an imperial green jade necklace over a vibrant yellow qipao. Time had stolen her youthful beauty, but it had replaced it with a heavy, commanding majesty. As the only female family head in the room, her aura vastly overpowered the men around her.

She raised her eyes slowly, watching Julian get swarmed by a gaggle of screaming teenagers. With a slight wave of her hand, she summoned Heath. "Go. Bring Julian over here."

If a literal illegitimate son could sit at the high table, why was her grandson being tossed to the fringes?

"Mother."

Caelan Cavanaugh shot the elderly woman a deeply uncomfortable look. "Is this really appropriate?"

Madame Cavanaugh let out a cold, sharp scoff. "What's inappropriate about it? In what world is Julian inferior to anyone sitting at this table? If you have a problem with it, you can get up and give Julian your seat."

Caelan shut his mouth instantly. His mother ruled with an iron fist, completely merciless when it came to saving face. If she publicly kicked the Chief Director of Judicial Oversight out of his seat, he'd never live it down.

Across the room, Julian spotted Heath marching toward him. Without a second thought, he snatched Vivienne's wrist and bolted toward the main doors. Vivienne was entirely lost, but right as she tried to pull away, she saw Heath cutting through the crowd.

Realization hit her, and she glanced toward Madame Cavanaugh. But before she could process the situation, the grip on her wrist tightened. A gust of wind hit her face, and in the blink of an eye, the dazzling brilliance of the banquet hall was replaced by the neon-lit shadows of the gardens.

Julian was practically running for his life. Vivienne tried to struggle, realized it was utterly pointless, and simply gave up, jogging to keep pace with him.

Julian finally dragged her beneath a sprawling pergola. Checking to make sure the coast was clear, he slowly released her wrist, keeping his tone carefully nonchalant. "It was getting way too stuffy in there. Figured I'd bring you out for some fresh air."

"..." Vivienne couldn't even be bothered to call out his terrible lie. She turned around, fully intending to march right back inside.

Julian reached out and yanked her braid. "If I sit out here by myself, I'm going to look like a psycho. Stay with me."

Vivienne stopped dead in her tracks, fighting the urge to snap as she yanked her braid out of his hand. "If the two of us sit out here together, we're going to look even crazier."
