The parlor at Obsidian Estate was unusually lively today. The second and third branches of the family had all arrived, and the house staff moved methodically, serving tea and snacks to the young masters and misses.
Caspian had five sons, each one remarkable.
The eldest, Dorian, was the Speaker of the Council, holding oversight power over the President and the judiciary.
The second son, Leander Ravenshire, was a business magnate. His empire spanned electronics, finance, machinery, entertainment, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals, wielding significant influence in the global economy.
The fourth son, Lucian Ravenshire, was also in business, but he dealt in fast money. He owned eighty percent of the casinos, clubs, hotels, and entertainment venues at Stormhollow Deepwater Port.
The fifth son, Benedict managed the Ravenshire family's shadow operations and overseas trade, the kind of business that thrived in the dark.
The most impressive was the true heir, Sebastian, who had risen to the rank of Commander of the Athelvia Military Region before he was thirty. But he was also the most unfortunate; he was lost at sea during an overseas military campaign. If Sebastian hadn't died, he would have been a shoo-in for the presidency of Athelvia.
"Leander, has something happened at home? Why did Grandfather suddenly call everyone here?" Evelyn Ravenshire, dressed in a custom-made purple lace dress, stirred her coffee nonchalantly. As the eldest daughter, she belonged to the second branch of the family.
Leander, the family's second son, also from the second branch, resembled his mother. Though middle-aged, he showed no signs of aging, instead possessing a unique, mature charm. Dressed in a sharp suit, he sat with one leg crossed over the other, exuding an air of carefree confidence. "What's the hurry? You'll find out soon enough."
Evelyn glanced at him, her eyes sweeping over the people across from them, a polite smile on her lips. "Lucian, I heard you won the bid for that plot of land in Merriton City. Any plans for it? My husband has some spare cash right now. Maybe we can all have dinner sometime to talk about it? Don't forget your own family if a good project comes up."
Lucian, the fourth son, who had been talking quietly with the fifth son, Benedict, raised an eyebrow at her words. "Evelyn, where did you hear that? The list of winning bids won't be announced until next week."
Leander stood up to get some tea, glancing casually at Evelyn.
Evelyn forced herself to appear cheerful. "Nothing—"
Leander cut her off, his expression neutral. "Short on cash?"
Evelyn froze, then reflexively denied it. "No."
"Alright," Leander said, taking a sip of tea. In a voice low enough for only the two of them to hear, he added, "Have Charles write down a number. I'll transfer it to you from my personal account."
