"I guess that's all we can do for now," Leander agreed, letting the matter drop. The success of their branch of the family was tied together; right now, nothing was more important than helping Dorian reclaim his political power.
After a brief exchange, Dorian left the pavilion and headed straight for the banquet hall. Leander waited a moment, ensuring the coast was clear before stepping out. But just as he did, he spotted Julian walking straight toward him.
This rebellious brat.
Leander stood his ground, blocking Julian's path as he approached. "What the hell have you been doing all night?"
Julian kept his hands shoved in his pockets, shooting Leander a sidelong glare. "What do you mean, what have I been doing?"
"Julian!" Leander snapped. "What goes through your head? Trying to steal Alaric's spotlight in front of everyone—are you out of your mind?"
Julian narrowed his eyes, a dangerous, volatile edge sharpening his gaze.
Knowing his son's explosive temper, Leander immediately softened his tone. "Come with me to the banquet hall. Several of your uncles have been singing your praises. Go introduce yourself. It'll be good for your future."
"What future?" Julian mocked. "Are they going to save your junk stocks from being delisted? Or help you take a few more shell companies public so you can siphon off another couple hundred million?"
Leander's face flushed with anger. "Julian, do you really have to speak to me like that?"
Julian let out a cold, sharp laugh. "Leander, don't you think it's a little late to play the 'doting father' card? When I was begging you to come back and see Mom one last time, where was this paternal love?"
A flash of guilt crossed Leander's face, quickly replaced by defensive frustration. "Julian, I know you can't let the past go, but I had my reasons. I need you to understand. Everything I build in the Ravenshire Group will eventually be yours..."
"Stop right there," Julian cut him off, utterly disinterested. "Let's get one thing straight. I have zero intention of planning your funeral, and I sure as hell don't want a single cent of your pathetic inheritance."
"You!" Leander choked, nearly spitting blood in sheer fury. "You're my only son! Who else am I supposed to leave it to?"
Julian pretended to think about it for a second. "Why don't you take a page out of Uncle Dorian's playbook? Find some random woman and pop out another kid. That way, you can finally stop breathing down my neck."
