Terrified that the slippery Vivienne would slither away, Mina kept a death grip on her hand the entire way, not daring to relax for a second.
Vivienne put on a dramatic show of whining the whole way. Once she finally got tired of complaining, she feigned total despair. "Where are you going? Isn't the parking lot that way?"
Going through the parking lot would undoubtedly alert the Blackthornes, which Mina wanted to avoid for now. However, she didn't want to explain herself, so she simply said coldly, "I can handle a minor errand like this myself."
"Handle it yourself? How? If you don't take a car from the lot, you won't even make it past the front gates."
Crestline's rules strictly forbade students from leaving campus during school hours, a policy aggressively enforced for the elite students. This rule was designed entirely to protect the upper crust. If a young master or heiress of a major conglomerate sneaked out and got hurt, the school would face catastrophic consequences.
Therefore, the only way to legitimately leave the premises was to depart from the parking lot in a vehicle bearing an official family crest.
Mina shot her a sidelong glance. "Not necessarily."
Soon, they arrived at the arts building behind the flower beds.
Vivienne looked around. "Why are we here?"
"Stop asking questions and just follow me." Mina pulled Vivienne into the elevator and effortlessly pressed the button for the sixth floor.
Vivienne surveyed the space and spotted a security camera tucked in the corner, its faint red light blinking intermittently. She tilted her head and flashed the lens a bright, friendly smile, treating it to a polite greeting.
Ding—
The doors slid open. Mina dragged Vivienne toward a set of double glass doors. The glass was frosted, heavily obscuring whatever lay beyond it.
Vivienne poked the glass. "It's locked."
Mina ignored her, walked up to the electronic keypad on the wall, and quickly punched in a code. With a sharp beep, the lock clicked open.
"Let's go." Mina signaled her, grabbed her hand, and pulled her inside.
The moment she stepped through the glass doors, Vivienne froze.
