A few moments later, the glass door cracked open, and a girl practically bolted out, her clothes utterly disheveled.
Mina clearly hadn't anticipated this and stood frozen in shock, the tips of her ears burning bright red.
Vivienne turned to watch the girl scurry away. Was that... Mira Easton?
"Hey! Mina. They haven't even handed out the invites for the freshmen yet. What brings you out here to play?"
The boy leaning against the doorway had his hair slicked back and a lean, muscular build. His shirt was unbuttoned down to his chest, radiating an air of complete, lazy arrogance.
Vivienne shot him a quick, appraising look.
Kael Kenyon. The youngest son of the newly powerful Garland family. He and Preston Everhart were two sides of the same toxic coin. If Preston committed murder, Kael lit the match; if Preston robbed a house, Kael burned it to the ground.
"Well, well. A new face?"
Mina immediately stepped squarely in front of him, blocking his view. "She's Alaric Ravenshire's sister."
The predatory gleam in Kael's eyes vanished instantly. He laughed loudly. "I'm not a monster, what are you so nervous for? Out with it. What do you need?"
"I need to leave campus," Mina said. "I was hoping you could help me out."
Kael raised an eyebrow. "Sneaking out behind your family's back?"
Mina didn't answer.
Kael looked her up and down. "I mean, it's not impossible, but you have to tell me where you're going. If something happens to you and Old Man Blackthorne finds out I helped, I'm a dead man."
Mina thought for a second. "I'm heading to Stormhollow Central High."
"Stormhollow Central High?" Kael frowned, then his face split into a knowing smirk. "I get it. You've got a boyfriend. Sneaking out to see your secret lover?"
Mina gave a stiff nod. "...Yes."
Kael shifted his gaze to Vivienne. "And what about you?"
Vivienne didn't miss a beat. "I'm also going to see my boyfriend."
